My 89' suit progress (nothing you haven't seen)

Ok so although I know all of you guys have seen this before,I figured id share my build process threw the [sign in to see URL] far I have collected a cowl from coofunkcurly, armor(chest, legs, knees, fore arms and calves) and belt from drftfan, gloves from dark wear with glove armor from pj wares and an emblem from [sign in to see URL] the way I have a liquid leather under suit from spandex man that I should be receiving this week .The only two things left are the cape and boots. For the cape I'm definitely going latex, most likely Paul's and for the boots I might just go ud replicas since they look so good and just are generally a convenient option. As for a little about me, I'm a 26 year old union electrician apprentice who just had always had a love for batman, costuming and the whole movie/comic/ costume prop scene. My goal is to have a pretty Damn accurate suit(since I can now finally done what afford it lol) to wear on Halloween and then just have on display with all my other stuff.
Now enough with all the dialogue, on to the pictures.

First the cowl

Great pieces! I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure you should be able to mount the armor without the cape, you just won't be able to secure the cowl all the way down

Where should the back portion of the armour be lined up , and also where should the legs be ?

Also the urethane belt is big on me what would you guys suggest I do since the straps are maxed out and molded into the belt? I'm only about a size 31 waist.

Ok so just a brief update for any one who's interested.
I plan on putting the under suit on, putting on the armour and having my gf outline everything in the seamstress chalk. I will then remove every thing ands slip the under suit onto the duct tape dummy and mount the armour on that way. I want to do this just for the simple fact I'd rather be the applying the glue ands what not ands already if mistakes are made I can only blame [sign in to see URL] me know what you guys think if this idea.

As long as the duct tape mannequin is a good representation of your shape it should be fine.
Looking at the belt your options are few as far as I can see. If the buckles weren't there would the belt just meet or would it overlap?

To be honest it is safer that way emoticon

Don't forget to put saranwrap/Clingfilm around your body before you glue.

That is looking great so far, good job.

On the problem of the belt? First, I must say I didn't have to do this, nor have I ever did this. But here is a suggestion.....

This depends on how much you have to cut out. Why not cut it down to size where the straps are and glue new straps across the belt, to close up the the gap? It should be ok, cause it's at the back where no-one would see. The other advantage might be a better looking join across the belt, depending on how much you have to cut. If ya want to go all the way, you could even cut a groove out, so the strap sits flush.

I repeat, I have never tried gluing urethane to other material (assuming that's what the belt is), but there should be plenty products in the UK for that job.

Hope it helps emoticon

Hey bro thanks ands the belt is fixed already.I cut the 2 tabs along with the straps that were molded into it off ands glued on my own black straps from a north face book bag along with its buckles and looks great. When glueing urethane definitely use gorilla super glue gel or loctite super glue [sign in to see URL] bonds instantly.

Thanks for the tip. I do have a small tear in a urethane cowl that I have been meaning to fix - just never got round to it yet.

I teared the bicep behind a tad and the glue bonded it right up. Just make sure you do our best and let it set. I realized the less glue the better and shake the gel out of the bottle.

And then one taking out of of the stupid duct tape dummy I see this. Probably from stress/weight or actually now to think of it, pulling it off of the plastic wrap while on my body to hard to start a little something. Is there anything I can do?I tried to add a very small admit I'd glue but I don't know ,I just don't want it to get huge and
 have to remount. So questions...

1.) What should I do about the minor tip on the waist line of the leg armor on the spandex man undersuit?

2.) How do you store/fold the suit?

3.)
What is a good mannequin (affordable)
You display the suit on?

4.)-I have the dark wear 89 gloves in medium , and they are a very high grade of leather if any one wasn't [sign in to see URL] question [sign in to see URL] there a way to attach them a tad to be able to slip over my fore arm armour that's already mounted to my suit? Their a but snug ands was wondering if you could well I could do that?
Thanks again guys

Well I just had to try it on quick since I can't wait for Halloween .Let me know what you guys think.
Nothing is on correctly as I'm making a cape harness now which I'll post when I'm done.
Going to have to cut the latex cape clips casted in this cape off as it doesn't allow my body type have the cowl splines line up correctly.

Re: My 89' suit progress (nothing you haven't seen)

Just as I stated in my little tutorial video I sent you, you want to get someone to help you here.

Easy steps below.

1. put the armor on.

2. Put the cowl on.

3. have a friend help you slide the cape on (fitted underneath the cowl scallops of course) and have him/her adjust it until the spines match up and you are comfortable with the placement of the cape.

4. Once you're all in agreememnt with the cape placement, you'll want your helper to grab a small piece of white chalk or white colored pencil to draw some marks.

5. With the chalk, draw around the cowl's spines/scallops over the cape. Also create 2 marks where the harness will be attached, perfectly underneath the emblem. You can create a fake harness out of cardboard just to help you decide where to place these markings, according to where your emblem sits. They will have to sit perfectly on top of one another when everything is attached together.

6. Remove everything and carefully attach the real cape harness (if you obtained or created one for yourself) according to the markings you made.
(you can use the archives to find these templates. I'm sure they're still in there.
[url=[sign in to see URL]
/[sign in to see URL]]here's a pic of another brother's harness.[/url] Although, you really don't need that many holes in it. Just two in the center would suffice. Remember, you're not using foam latex, so some things will differ.

7. Don't strain yourself too much about these details. Trust me... not worth trying to get the harness to look 100% exactly the same as the one used in the film. Just make one that will hold well over your shoulders and attach underneath the emblem on your cowl. My harness is not split in two. That's unnecessary. Mine is one whole piece that keeps the cape attached at all times.

Definitely check the archives thoroughly. There's still a lot of good things in there.
It took you only a few months to get this far. It took me years and I'm still not 100% finished with mine as I'm always looking for things to fix. lol. emoticon

Some photos to help...

This one is of the actual movie. Give you an idea of how the cape sits in between the emblem. *(half ways of the emblem, is where the cape splits).
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

Goodluck bud, so far all is looking sharp! Sorry I couldn't reply sooner to your last email. I'm very distracted with my job at the moment.
I think considering the time you've invested, you're doing really well for yourself.

In addition, here's the cape harness blue print I created for my own suit. You can print it out at 100% (make sure your printer settings are set in landscape and not in portrait mode), cut it out and use it as a stencil. It should be only slightly smaller than the 89 emblem to hide the edges.
The flaps that attaches to the cape can be modified to your liking, depending on how high or low the harness has to sit, in accordance to your own height. Hope this helps ya.
