Re: Small upgrade for Batman Begins equipment case
Big important steps this weekend!
I finally added the 6" extension to my door panels to get them to the full 78" needed, and bought a new tool to get them fitting
just right: an electric hand planer. Lots of fun.
I decided to go with some narrow hinges instead of my standard wide door hinges, so I wouldn't need to add any extension shims
inside the wall framing. This way the shelves aren't obscured at all when looking straight on, and it keeps down the overall complexity.
Of course the doors will have to come down for finishing, but everything is correctly sized and placed and they swing open quite
nicely. And bonus, my wife will come into the home office more now since it's this thing's presence is not so menacing with the doors closed!
Gear system is still in progress, but hopefully within a few weeks I can make some good progress on the exterior trim panels,
get the medallion ring mounted, and my interior batarang holders installed.
Huge, huge relief to have the "6 walls of the box" done at this point.
edit: Would an admin please move this thread to the Begins/TDK subforum?

Re: Small upgrade for Batman Begins equipment case
Couple of from trim pieces cut, top handles mounted and arches cut. Next will be the bottom half and then stain and final assembly.

One more...
Biggest challenge right now is sourcing the wire/grille mesh for the bottom.

Why one more?
Add as many as you like, that thing is seriously cool!

Re: Batman Begins Batsuit Armoire & Wayne Enterprises Equipment Case
Decided I'll be using part Tango_AntBrassPlt2X4 shown here http://www.twpinc.com/wire-mesh-material/brass/antique-brass
For the mesh grille on the bottom half of the front doors. It's not 100% accurate, but I got a sample from them and it's great. This stuff is very solid and matches the other antique brass hardware.
This past weekend I put another layer of "floor" on the bottom for better support. I also finally attached the upper trim panels on the doors. When the mesh comes in I'll build out the lower trim that frames it, and put all that together. In the meantime, I can go ahead and stain and lacquer the doors this weekend. Once the mesh and lower handles are installed, I would be satisfied calling the Armoire portion of this DONE. The undersuit is still in the works and I have a little more to do on the WE Equipment case. I have not decided yet if I want to do the triangle design pattern on the outside walls of the closet.
edit:
Here's the latest shot, but it isn't much different to look at yet.
I need to smooth out the edges where the trim is joined, use a small amount of wood filler in some gaps and hopefully have the staining done over the holiday weekend. I probably won't reattach the doors until they are ready to go back up permanently -- i.e. after the bottom half detail is done.
And for a sense of scale, that is my Pelican 1700 rifle case I'm using for the Wayne Enterprises equipment to the right there. With the additional floor support, this beast now stands over 85" tall.
