Do members actually WANT BOTB to move to Facebook?
I have been thinking about this since I saw the post last night. Do members want this change? I mean last I checked this was a brotherhood of people who loved the bat and came here because of that reason. There are already quite a few facebook pages that exist where people discuss the bat. BOTB is just going to be yet one more. Facebook isnt a forum. Most groups have very little structure and most of them tend to be rather messy. You can't post "topics", you can't have archives. It is a severely limited format to try and have subsitute for an actual forum. BOTB may be quieter these days but it as well as the trade area are still relevant enough to not completely shut down. If I wanted to find something rare the last place I am going is Facebook.
I am not ok with the change. And if the admins and mods don't want to do the job anymore then turn it over to the people that want to.

Re: Do members actually WANT BOTB to move to Facebook?
Here's my thing. Yes, the forum format is archaic now, but it has its purposes. Facebook severely limits control and archiving. You can create picture albums and sticky a few threads to the top but that's far from having a tutorial section dividing into categories. Not only that, but now it'll be even easier for one-stop shoppers to come and go. That brings with it both potential for good and bad. I say why not both? Leave the BoTB as is, turn the reigns over to some active old-timers, and let the Facebook page be a sister-site.
And plus, nobody wants this hobby to continue without Uncle Ed in it ;)

Moving this group to FB would be a disaster IMO.

Re: Do members actually WANT BOTB to move to Facebook?
I don't like the move for the reasons stated above...lack of control, archives, etc, etc.
I did offer my services in creating a standalone website and move archives over manually. It only costs around $80/year for their own website and hosting. Pretty sure if that was the case we could all come up with the $.
I am an older gentleman and really do not want to create a facebook account.
Edit: Anyway we can convince them to keep everything here? I don't want to take away from what the BOTB is or highjack it or anything, but could put up a new site for those not wanting to move over the facebook, but I would rather they keep the this site up...

NO! Its not only bad to close this forum, its also bad to try to force member to join facebook! Its killing the brotherhood here and I do not understand it, there are no good reasons to do so because the costs for this forum are minimal!

Unfortunately fellas, social media is where it's at. BoTB has been more active in the last 24 hours Han the last week from what I can see. Thisnplace has been dying and it's time to admit it.

Why not just make the forum where you can login with social media and share posts via facebook, etc? It is easy to do with plug-ins.

I will agree. But just because a forum isnt as busy as it used to be is not a valid reason to simply say "screw it" it doesnt need to exist. Not to slag off The Cave but it died completely over there and it still exists. I have asked MULTIPLE times to become a Mod over here and I have not even been given a response except from Brin saying who to contact since he wasn't in charge of it. I mean come on. There are people willing to do the job. Why not simply turn it over instead of basically shutting it down?
