Re: BVS critic reviews

I saw it. And I thought it was bad. The editing, pacing and narrative was horrible. I can easily sum it up with "why"? There's no character motivations here. You know what the characters are doing but you never know why.

Why does Lex hate Superman? Why does Lex hate Batman? Why does he hate Bruce Wayne? Why does Batman hate Superman? Why is he hell bent on destroying him even though he doesn't know anything about him?

Why does Batman now go to the ultimate extreme all wily nilly?

The movie has a ton going on and never fully satisfies any of the ideas it presents. It's like Snyder had all these great ideas but was too dense to realize he could only fully expand on a few of them, and instead crammed everything in we got like 4 or 5 movies stuffed into one.

The Justice League bits, and to pretty significant extent, Wonder Woman, were forced in with no rhyme or reason and did nothing to advance the plot.

The end felt cheap and since we know JL films next month we also know it is in fact cheap and meaningless.

Here's another big issue. Clark is such a hopeless mope. This was my issue with Man of Steel. He didn't seem to want to be or thrive on being Superman. It seemed he felt obligated. And because of that, he just pouts for 2 hours. This is not Superman. Batman broods and pouts and sulks, not Supes. There was no contrast between them.

Superman isn't any less violent or careless with human life than Bats, but berates Batman for it. Makes no sense.

Overall, I did enjoy this movie more than MoS. I did enjoy Affleck a great deal, even though his Batman is really unlikable. Irons did very well. The entire cast really did fine with what they were given.

However, terrible editing with no establishing shots, an utterly terrible pacing and lack of coherent narrative, and terrible characterizations of two of the greatest heroes ever sunk the movie.

6/10

I hope this or JL is Snyder's last foray into dc properties. He is an absolute horse manure film make and unless the film is already written and outlined for with A-Z directions of how to put it together he fails, as evident by his original works.

I'd advise to read the gripes critics have with this film as many of not all of those gripes are legitimate criticism.

I've seen it twice and I enjoyed it much more the second time. There's a lot to take in. My personal score would be a 7/10. I loved Affleck as the Bat. I want a solo film NOW! Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman rocked. When she hit the scene, WOW!

I really suggest just going and see it for yourself. I mean, c'mon, if I made it through a showing of Dark Knight Rises I'm sure you guys can make it through this. LOL

Look away if you do not want a spoil. The first half sucked.

Once the briefcase blew up in the capitol building and made all that wasted time and those people and story lines go away all was good until the end which was ridiculous and over done trying to be like Avengers. Come on. Be original! It is Batman And Superman!. Ok We get it Superman is hard to stop and he could turn. We do not need a waste of an hour and half to convince us. Geeze. What a waste in the first half. Now everything I watch it I have to live through that.

Ben is Batman. I knew it when it was first announced and I was right even though I was in the minority.

The first half would've worked if it was the sole purpose of the film. "Do we need a Superman" is such an interesting question and idea to explore. But Snyder didn't really go anywhere with it and it deemed much of the first half useless.

Definitely think Affleck has "best Batman" potential but he needs a better, solo adventure with better characterization. His performance was the best of the film and I'm hoping we see more of him on his own.

Glad we agree. I didn't want to think I was the only one.

I have never wished for my money back on a superhero movie i have seen in theaters. this one I did. I completely agree with taliz. i wanted so much to love this movie. and there was so much potentia lbut i feel it was completely wasted. I don't know if this was the fault of ZacK Snyder's directing, David Goyer's writing, the dc/wb deciding they want the money that an avengers movie brings in, or a combination of all three. I hope something changes for justice league or I think i will have to pass on that. that being said i loved Alfred, Lex, the Batmobile, and Wonder Woman. Even though I felt she was forced in this movie, I am looking forward to her solo movie.

I like the guy who played luther but I wish he was less crazy acting, I don't buy he is smart and that clueless about himself and how he comes off at the same time.

It watched like a graphic novel reads. Honestly I am surprised there are any in this group that would complain about the pacing and story bits in the first half. If you've read a graphic novel they set the story just like this. Introductions, story beats, expositions all come in the first 2 acts that are then woven together in the 3rd act resolution. I am shocked that was lost on this crowd. I personally loved it, but I am biased as Batman and Superman are my favorite comics heroes and this was an awesome (first time in my life) chance to see my heroes in live action together.

I am glad it was done this way, I'm glad it wasn't a mindless popcorn movie like several of the Marvel films (I love them too, just love them differently) I am glad it made me think and feel and CARE.

Which is part of the problem. A graphic novel isn't a movie.

Two completely different mediums. You can't write and construct a movie like a graphic novel. The fact that there's inner dialogue in a comic is reason enough to think it'll fail of you try it in a film.
