Comic book Batman for Halloween

Long time lurker, first time poster (well, 2nd post, actually)...

Brothers:

I'm putting together a comic book Bat for Halloween. My main inspiration is Darwyn Cooke's version with the baggier top and longer trunks:

However, I much prefer longer ears on my cowl so earlier this year I bought the Arkham from Shawn Reevz. Beautiful work he does:

I'm also a fan of Batman Animated so plan on making a black cape with blue interior. AND I was contemplating blue trunks to match. But maybe that's going too far. Here are my concept drawings:

Thoughts? This place is a wealth of information so thanks to all who post here. I plan on sticking around for quite awhile...

PS Big thanks to Uncle Ed for resolving my technical difficulties in posting!

Great concept, I like the classic style, did you considered the get a totally black cape? Attached is a retouched file of your design, I colored the inside of the cape dark grey only so that the other black parts still will be visible, but in real it will be darker.

Thanks much for the reply, Phantom! I'm going to attempt the blue interior, however. I really like the look of it. This guy's looks great:

I'm not sure if he posts here, but it's the look I'm after (but want bigger end scallops).

The first appearance Batman above is Bob Keiffer. Don't think he frequents here much anymore but you can find him on Facebook. He is legendary for his capes.

Thanks for the tip! I don't have a Facebook so joined Tumblr and sent him a message.

Elements of my belt showed up today: I want functioning pouches so ordered 4 small camera bags. Gotta remove the logo and paint them yellow, but they're the perfect size. Will post photos soon...

Great concept. I'd stick with the black trunks though IMO. The blue just doesn't look right to me. Can't wait to see how this project comes out. Definitely post progress pics.

I agree about the black trunks -- thanks, Uncle Ed! I just ordered some Fruit of the Loom trunks that I'll have to dye black, and an Eastbay compression suit I'll be dying a light gray. Their stock gray looked too dark.

Right now, I'm researching belt buckles. There are some nice ones with the Bat logo -- but they appear to be too small. I want at least a 2" belt so am perusing Amazon for some larger buckles. I might even go with a round one for that old school Bob Kane look.

I'll post more photos when I get more stuff. I bought the Gotham boots already, and have some Rubie's gloves I need to alter to make look less pirate-like:

I'll be ditching those fins for more comic book-like ones. I have a LOT of sewing practice to get in before Halloween!

Progress! I finished the gloves by cutting out some fins in cardboard, then sewing them into some pleather. I then cut the Rubies down to make them more form-fitting.

Image

My sewing skills aren't great (this the first project I've attempted) and the large fin on the left glove sorta got away from me, but I like these much better than the before version.

I then put together a concept cape to combine a blue cloth interior with black pleather exterior. This will be a challenge but I'm determined to see it through.

Image

The thing I'm having the biggest issue with is finding a belt buckle large enough for a 2" belt. Even the biggest cowboy belts I'm finding stop at a 1.5" belt-size. Ideally, I'd love to pick up a 2" tactical belt so I can paint it and my camera pouches yellow. For the buckle, I'm hoping to find a large, flat one so I can affix the same bat emblem that will be on my chest (still mulling that one over).

Any suggestions as to were to find a big buckle? Thanks...

Your quickest solution for the buckle would be to either just cut out a circle of plexiglass maybe and mount that to your belt or just do what you did with the fins and just make a circle out of cardboard and then cover it in something like a yellow latex or plastidip.
Third on the black trunks, I would only do blue if your going to do more like a Neal Adams Batsuit.
