I've used it on repairs. Not sure about "soft" urethanes but it should work. Urethane is urethane. Super glue the actual tear then put the aquaseal ON THE INSIDE of the cowl. It dries shiny. nondisclosed_email@example.com (BatmanALL)Mon, 04 Sep 2017 19:22:27 +0000 Re: Need some advice / opinion on urethane curinghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344633,from=rss#post2344633https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344633,from=rss#post2344633Tony, Is that good for soft urethanes? Get some Aquaseal and coat in ON THE INSIDE of the cowl. It will re-enforce weak areas and prevent tearing from happening. nondisclosed_email@example.com (BatmanALL)Mon, 04 Sep 2017 10:24:30 +0000 Re: Need some advice / opinion on urethane curinghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344625,from=rss#post2344625https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344625,from=rss#post2344625I know what you mean J. I suppose it is possible there's some contamination there but if he's getting the sane flaw, same place, on multiple castings I think it's more likely it's a mold flaw. Is the vendor someone we know here?nondisclosed_email@example.com (efarrell4)Mon, 04 Sep 2017 09:01:52 +0000 Re: Need some advice / opinion on urethane curinghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344624,from=rss#post2344624https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344624,from=rss#post2344624Thanks Ed. I did ask the vendor what urethane brand and shore hardness he used so I could reinforce it myself as an alternative and am waiting to see if he responds. Really irks me to get the "air bubble" excuse like I'm an idiot because he's no virgin either to know better. I expected a little better response otherwise I wouldn't have asked for some insight from other experts here in case I was misdiagnosing it. I've had a lot of fins come out of my old molds with the cracking texture to discover it was the result of leftover A or B urethane residue from a prior casting contaminating the silicone mold preventing proper curing of subsequent castings and it always took a lot of acetone to get any chemical residue off causing the problem. I would have thought this guy knows this too but since he's pulled 30 other castings before mine without incident, despite my photos, I guess he knows better.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nitestar)Sun, 03 Sep 2017 22:02:06 +0000 Re: Need some advice / opinion on urethane curinghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344622,from=rss#post2344622https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344622,from=rss#post2344622Jerry,   Looks to me like a flaw in the mold. If it's also thin in that area maybe you could shore it up with an additional light coat of urethane there. Maybe even coat a piece of spandex or something with the urethane and put that on there with the uncured urethane. That would possibly strengthen the area (then again it could make it worse I suppose.) Since you are no virgin when it comes to running urethane I'd say run the experiment on one of them and see how it goes. Of course you do need to know exactly what urethane was used so I suggest you ask that question.nondisclosed_email@example.com (efarrell4)Sun, 03 Sep 2017 15:55:10 +0000 Need some advice / opinion on urethane curinghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344621,from=rss#post2344621https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344621,from=rss#post2344621I ordered a cowl from a vendor and after waiting 13 weeks it arrived with a weak spot in one of the neck muscle creases that shows signs it will tear if pulled too hard, and a weird cracking pattern in the urethane on the collar bone below it. From pouring urethane myself in the past, I’d see symptoms like this if my silicone mold had an area contaminated by something causing curing inhibition and would clean the mold area with acetone before re-pouring for a new casting. I was messaged this when I shared pics of the issue: "I got your picture and it seems it was just a matter of the urethane being ran a little thin in that particular area .,..usually we catch those and re enforce them before they are shipped but it appears as though yours wasn’t checked thorough enough before being packaged I will send you out a replacement with our next pick up" Made sense at first. The vendor was speedy about sending me a replacement, but it has exactly the same problem in the same area. After reporting the flaw, this is the new assessment: "the area you are referring to is just an air bubble in the mold … so it creates a raised bubble area in the crease of the neck…I only have one mold for the cowl so all of the cowls produced from the mold have this…I feel it’s not really visible when wearing it so I don’t consider the mold to be a waste …. I have cast about 30 + cowls from it and I really haven’t had an issue ( so far ) with them ripping if you are not satisfied with the cowl please feel free to return both cowls and I will give you a full refund no problem ;)" I never said this was a cosmetic issue, I'm worried the thin weak wall will probably tear after a few uses. If that crease is stretched more it's going to breach because the urethane in that area feels ofter to the touch than the rest of the cowl and it's probably got about 1 mm of thickness in it where the rest of the cowl is 4mm thick. And now I'm getting the vibe "take it or leave it" after waiting 13 weeks for it in time for Halloween and the prospect not finding another in time that will fit my 24" crown like this one does. Does anyone here that pours urethane have any insight into what may be causing the weird cracking when the urethane is only slightly stretched or why an area that thin won’t cure properly in just one area if it’s not curing inhibition? It's not a texture in the sculpt and isn't happening anywhere else the cowl is slightly stretched and I know none of this has to do with "air bubbles".
