FYI, we won't be merging with the RPF. We either find a way to sort this place out or just keep it as is and hopefully people will some day come back and help rebuild. To be honest, I have about no use for the RPF. I have a membership there but have like 3 or 4 posts in like 6 years. I find the leadership there to be elitist and they seem to feel the have a right to police the entire prop/costume community. nondisclosed_email@example.com (efarrell4)Sun, 01 Oct 2017 18:18:42 +0000 Re: What the BAT has happened to us?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344701,from=rss#post2344701https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344701,from=rss#post2344701I think most topics on message boards are more substantial than topics on Facebook. Facebook is fine for daily chatter and updates among family and friends, but I don't know why anyone would want to use it for anything that people might want to refer back to later, such as your archives that Photobucket pretty much destroyed. It is possible to get those images back, if someone has the time, a place to host them, and moderator powers to edit other people's posts. Maybe I should look into starting my own image hosting service. I probably wouldn't do it for free, but there's no way in hell I would charge anyone $400/year for it. I'll start researching this possibility after Halloween. I know there are some scripts out there that would make this possible, so I wouldn't have to create it from scratch. Of course, one of you could always start up an image hosting site for BotB members, and you could accept donations to pay for it. I have found some good information on The RPF this month. I will understand if you decide to move things there, but I hope you'll decide to stay.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Sun, 01 Oct 2017 01:08:05 +0000 Re: What the BAT has happened to us?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344700,from=rss#post2344700https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344700,from=rss#post2344700Ed/Jamie - would you guys consider merging the BOTB forum over to the 'DC Costumes & Props' section of the RPF? That section can be a tad sluggish at times, but if the members and info from here were merged over there it would certainly build energy. The RPF has its own image hosting too, solving that issue. And the topics are much more substantial than what you're seeing on the BOTB Facebook. Just a thought.nondisclosed_email@example.com (MattgomeryBurns)Sat, 30 Sep 2017 19:52:46 +0000 Re: What the BAT has happened to us?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344688,from=rss#post2344688https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344688,from=rss#post2344688I'm really annoyed with the fact that photobucket suddenly started charging a whopping $400/year for third-party hosting. I can't imagine anyone being willing to pay that much, when it's so much cheaper to set up your own domain with hosting. Retrieving images from photobucket can be time-consuming and tedious, but it can be done. I retrieved a few of the clickable smileys here to show you, and threw in Tony's avatar for good measure. If you visit the URL of one of the images from the same browser where you found it, it will give you the error message because it's cached from seeing it on the board. You can view the image with a hard refresh while viewing it on photobucket, which you can accomplish with CTRL+R. If you have more than one browser, you can save a step. Just copy the URL of the image in the browser you normally use for this board, then paste the URL into the address bar of a different browser (where these images won't be cached) and hit 'enter'. I need to go now, but I can give you more detailed instructions later, if you need them.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Tue, 26 Sep 2017 06:32:22 +0000 Re: What the BAT has happened to us?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344682,from=rss#post2344682https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344682,from=rss#post2344682Quote:BatmanALL wrote: Maybe we can figure out how to rebuild the image archives. For that we need OP's to update their images. Remember folks, I can't do this alone. This is a community and has to involve all of the community members. Oh and if anyone still keeps in touch with Tim (The Black Bat) let him know about the photobucket issue and ask him if he can send me all of our community imagery. Therpf still has alot of traffic, but they cater to a wide audience. The each area of speciality isn't booming by itself, but if you add all the facits of DC, Marvel, SW, and all others it is a large group. The 501st keep the actual build areas and sales areas on forums. To find out how to get an approved costume, you have to go to a specific forum for that costume. There are no Batman costumes that need approval to play. Even if this forum was kept open to new members, there are numerous FB pages dedicated to buying Batman, and other superhero stuff with auto notification if something is for sale. I have been a member here for awhile and will continue, but I also am all over FB. nondisclosed_email@example.com (bondedhawk)Sun, 17 Sep 2017 15:28:43 +0000 Re: What the BAT has happened to us?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344662,from=rss#post2344662https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344662,from=rss#post2344662Quote:Batcouille wrote: ed, you are absolutely correct and please excuse me 'cause i wasnt clear enough: my too strick rules comment applied up to somewhere 2013 where i got fed up and lost interest in having to follow all those rules. since that time, i really haven't posted or followed too close what went on. I tried for nearly 11 years to get the previous admin staff (not necessarily Jason and his team. The folks even before) that they were being paranoid and taking the fun out of everything. I many times (almost to the point of being banned, saved only by the fact that I'm "Uncle" Ed and it would have started a war, LOL) referred to their rules and restrictions and militaristic view on how things SB run as Nazi's. The staff acted like the SS vigilantly reprimanding those who "disobeyed".. Well I changed that but unfortunately it could have been too late (which saddens me greatly). I seriously hope this place picks up and that some of the oldies come back. I also hope that people's stuff that's in the archives can me updated by those that posted it. Hi Yan,    I have to agree with some of your concerns, like needing second party hosting for images and the search function, Unfortunately BOTB owners don't control that. It's Runboard that does that and I do know they were working on image hosting options after the Photobucket debockel . But I 100% disagree with other points like the rules and lack of evolution. Jamie and I made a lot of changes once I finally got control. Take a moment and read the new rules. I removed pretty much all of the previous restrictions, including almost all of the trade section rules. We also added special sections up to and including a section for charity work. Unfortunately the photobucket issue had wrecked the archives and unless the original posters put in new links that can't be fixed. nondisclosed_email@example.com (efarrell4)Thu, 14 Sep 2017 19:10:12 +0000 Re: What the BAT has happened to us?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344657,from=rss#post2344657https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344657,from=rss#post2344657I check in here almost daily although I rarely post anymore. Photobuckets's new policies has killed our archives and it's a shame. The BOTB Facebook page is frustrating at the moment. Very little costuming/prop making. Rules of the board, which are for the most part pretty solid, are not followed on the facebook page. I was enjoying another Batman costuming site until the owner started making some pretty ridiculous claims and threatened to kick out other members for joining groups that he didn't sanction. That rubbed me the wrong way and I don't know if I will participate in it any longer. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Jimithy909)Wed, 13 Sep 2017 18:30:55 +0000 Re: What the BAT has happened to us?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344655,from=rss#post2344655https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344655,from=rss#post2344655Well I have to side with Ed on blaming the previous owners. I have talked to other people about it as well. Guess what? The BOTB facebook page is in shambles. No direction at all ovew there and noone monitoring what is going on. Myself and Nat Reynolds were removed from being mods/admins since we are "makers" and had too much control. Since that point it has steadily declined in relevant content. Just was looking at it right now. And I am not trying to insult anyone but it has been far removed from costuming which the entire BOTB was based upon. Right now the first ten posts are as follows: 1. Cowl for sale 2. Someone looking for Revdesign 3. Someone posting they love guns and Batman and is that weird. 4. A painted grappling gun (not Tonys) 5. Two kids in standard costumes shooting a video with their dad (Good video) 6. Picture from a photo shoot 7. Costume picture 8. Wedding ring upgrade 9. Bat signal light from Walmart 10. Cowl picture. And 11. for fun... someone looking for a watch stand. Point is very little on costuming. Build a better Batman (trademark claimed...) has attempted to take on costume building but the majority of people are simply looking for places to buy stuff. And makers such as Gauntlet, Hernandez and Tigerstone arent even on Build anymore. I know James had serious issues getting a hold of one of the mods/admins at BOTB to get something taken care of. I barely check any of the facebook pages anymore. They are filled with a ton of new people who think they know the best way to do everything. nondisclosed_email@example.com (drftfan)Wed, 13 Sep 2017 13:38:56 +0000 Re: What the BAT has happened to us?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344654,from=rss#post2344654https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344654,from=rss#post2344654My two cents here from a long time lurker and rare poster. too strick rules. no evolution. Something I tried to do (and failed) with Behind the Mask was use the FB page to link to post on the forum. But again, people didn't care. I just don't understand. My issue with what Jason did was say this place was closed to new members and when he offered that I could keep it up he gave me no ability to do so. It took me close to a year to get it transferred over. I had no problem with having a facebook presence as well. It simply didn't need to be either/or. If he'd simply bowed out to run things there and just left this place "as is" I think things would have remained active here. That said however it does seem some people are slowly gravitating back (though real slowly). I just wish Photobucket hadn't done what they did because our archives and other important imagery is trashed and I can't do anything about that, ugh. And if Jason is reading this I apologize because I still love you like a brother but you made a major mistake and IMO single handedly killed this forum. This place was still hopping and had multiple posts every day until a single announcement was made that BOTB was moving to facebook and that this forum was closed to new members. I immediately sent him a scathing email which resulted in him saying I could run the forum and he would take care of the facebook page. Sadly all he really did was give me moderator power and disappear. I couldn't open the place back up, change the layout or basically do anything. It took me a long time to get a hold of Brin and have the board turned over to me after which I and Jamie began changing things. Unfortunately by then this place was a ghost town and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to fix it. Then to add insult to injury Photobucket changed their TOS basically killing all f our hyperlinked imagery. I tried to get a hold of Tim to get copies or to have him unlock his phorobucket so I could copy them all and "maybe" fix stuff (I'm no software guy) but there has so far been no reply. I will say this, as mentioned, other forums are doing fine. I'm on the Jeep Wrangler forum and there's so much activity there you need to safe a link to a thread you start because otherwise it'll be on anywhere from page 3 to page 9 in less than 24 hours. Forums in general aren't dead, Bu this place seems to be. And honestly it really pisses me off. The end of Halloween cannot come fast enough.     nondisclosed_email@example.com (drftfan)Wed, 06 Sep 2017 09:16:23 +0000 Re: What the BAT has happened to us?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344636,from=rss#post2344636https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344636,from=rss#post2344636The Batman group I'm apart of has just been SWAMPED with the same suits, same questions over and over. I wish this place was back the way it was. It was just Better IMO.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Bigbat23)Tue, 05 Sep 2017 23:49:46 +0000 Re: What the BAT has happened to us?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344630,from=rss#post2344630https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344630,from=rss#post2344630I personally hate using F.B. but do to kind of stay in touch. I love the forums for research and seeing what others are doing. I do hope people do come back to the forums because I personally think it makes for a better community than social media.nondisclosed_email@example.com (AlphaPrym)Mon, 04 Sep 2017 15:35:54 +0000 Re: What the BAT has happened to us?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344628,from=rss#post2344628https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344628,from=rss#post2344628Seems that social media is the "in" platform to connect different parts of life and to interlock with "friends", its the new hype, but overall its a big illusion because you have to give up privacy and its not easy to find older posts or topics. I personally use the forums because I stay away from facebook. I will always invest my time to read here and to post here and to keep this place alive. It matters to me and I hope that it matters to others too.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Phantombatman)Mon, 04 Sep 2017 12:25:03 +0000 What the BAT has happened to us?https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344627,from=rss#post2344627https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2344627,from=rss#post2344627The forums are dead. There are a handful of us still here but the majority of folks are on Facebook where the FB groups have taken over. Recently, I've done 2 events with the 501st. Its a change from being solo and I've really enjoyed it. So I've started doing research into the 501st along with Ghostbusters costuming troops. What I found is they're all still using forums to stockpile information and to teach/learn. Those along with RPF are still alive and kicking. So the question is... what happened to Batman? Did we just get wrapped up in the "cosplay" community which grew due to Facebook/Instagram media? Did we just get swept along? I'm being nostalgic I guess. nondisclosed_email@example.com (BatmanALL)Mon, 04 Sep 2017 10:32:12 +0000
