Re: Kelley Jones Cowl

Okay, second pull of the Kelley Jones cowl. This time I filled the ears with FlexFoam-iT IV, which helped them stand up better and added stability. Made a huge difference.

And, I have to admit, I'm geeking out just a little. Somebody tagged Kelley Jones on my FB post Friday---I'd have been happy if he just liked the pic. But he shared it on his own page. emoticon

Congratulations on your success, that is really an outstanding cowl in every way! I only have a 57cm head, about 22.5 so this is much to big for me, even with padding , I would look like an [sign in to see URL] there is a way to cast it in Urethane that has a shrinking factor of 10%?

Thanks! I'm not sure if there's a urethane that shrinks---I think that's one reason some people prefer urethane over latex, it doesn't shrink. Or at least the urethanes I'm familiar with. I'll have to look into that, or maybe somebody here knows of such a product. emoticon

Urethane does shrink but the amount is negligible. My understanding as to why people switched over is that once you have a "perfect" mold you get pieces that need no finish work (other than trimming) No sanding and painting required. emoticon

Amazing. 24" head is perfect for me. Do you have one to spare?

Re: Kelley Jones Cowl---now with Gauntlets!

I redid my comic-style gauntlets recently (new sculpt, mold, etc), and decided they would work well with my new Kelly Jones fins. Also did a KJ-style chest bat to complete the package.

Your cool new cowl reminds me a bit of this much older type, even though the ears are not as aggressive -

Thanks guys! Those fins are 6-1/4" long---just a little bit floppy when cast in Vytaflex 40. Future casts will probably be in Vytaflex 60, to make them a bit stiffer.

Whose cowl is that, Dave? It's familiar, but I can't quite place it...
