Then when you bond the armor you'll be doing it to a rubber coated piece if fabric. With the armor mounted it won't "breathe" there anyway so might as well give yourself a good gluing surface.nondisclosed_email@example.com (efarrell4)Fri, 21 Sep 2018 16:49:53 +0000 Re: Been a while....Urethane armor gluing questionhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2345540,from=rss#post2345540https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2345540,from=rss#post2345540Hi Urethanes as a group of resins have good adhesive properties but sometimes need a bit of help from adhesion promoters. We have done a lot of research with urethane on urethane adhesion and in general it works but for your application it would be wise to use a resin as an adhesive which has higher "elongation to break" than the piece being glued.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Gambo99)Wed, 12 Sep 2018 09:05:02 +0000 Re: Been a while....Urethane armor gluing questionhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2345516,from=rss#post2345516https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2345516,from=rss#post2345516Great, hope you will have success. Its always trial and error involved, I had some urethane (soft, rubber version) that was shrinking about 5%, but if you use filler it should not be a problem. And I used an european brand. One of the main differences between latex and urethane is the viscosity, also urethane will cure quickly and there will be no humidity. The main risk is that the urethane will not stick enough on the textile, so its important to have a textile that sucks up enough urethane to give it a hold, and bond with it. If your test is not successfull with the urethane on the textile then you can apply a first layer of latex, and then after the latex is cured and totally dry you can apply the urethane on top to glue the urethane armor. Good luck with your projects!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Phantombatman)Sat, 08 Sep 2018 11:35:24 +0000 Re: Been a while....Urethane armor gluing questionhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2345514,from=rss#post2345514https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2345514,from=rss#post2345514Thanks PB! It never occurred to me to use urethane :banghead My go-to for mounting latex to textiles is...liquid latex...so I grant myself a "Duh" for not thinking that one through. Gonna check the link and prep my mannequin for battle. Latex and EVA have been my major staples but going to clear out the cave and star anew with some minor sculpts and molds (Belt buckles, emblems, etc) to up my game. Smooth-on looks like a great resource and I believe they have tutorials too. Also have a TAP Plastics store close by and they have everything I need and some helpful tips too. Watch for some posts this fall with pics (and questions)Bat-Bros!!  :batfly nondisclosed_email@example.com (Ronjer)Sat, 08 Sep 2018 11:16:43 +0000 Re: Been a while....Urethane armor gluing questionhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2345511,from=rss#post2345511https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2345511,from=rss#post2345511Use urethane. You have to mount the undersuit on a mannequin but make sure to cover the mannequin with plastic-foil. Then mix a soft Urethane with a short hardening time with black color and use it as a glue to fix your urethane armor to a textile. Be aware that you may have to use some non-sticking scotch to fix the armor till the urethane is cured! You also can paint the visible textile to get a latex look. 3 things are important : 1. Make sure that the urethane armor parts are free from fat and dust, and 2. Make a test with the urethane and the textile first to find out how it reacts. important is to use a rubber Urethane that is very flexible.3, Use a thickener for the urethane so it will stay on the textile and armor and not run down. Has anything better than the super glue and Weldwood combo come up in the last few years? I do not think I have had any urethane armor projects in several years now :confused Thanks!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Ronjer)Thu, 06 Sep 2018 22:54:42 +0000
