Wolverine Claws edit: Pictures update

So, I want to make a set of wolverine claws. I want to make them of some sort of plastic or something... dunno what the best way would be. I thought about wood but I don't know how to work with wood. So any help on how I should make something like this and what materials to use and where would be a good place to get them etc... any info is appreciated
Thanks

Re: Wolverine Claws

I made a set a long time ago from birchwood(my first movie prop made of birchwood... lol). I loosely based it on a design I found on drgnfyre's website(before he even showed up here, I found his webpage).

That was before I found a nice set of cast aluminum ones on ebay, and once I was used to those, I liked them better than the ones I made(they were more accurate than what I made too). The handmount for the blades is what took some getting used to, because if you didnt hold them just right they would flop around on their wire mounts. So I took them off those mounts and I'm going to make something better to mount them on.

I'd post pictures but I don't have any of them. but if you want I'll take some.

If you're interested I could probably cast some copies too.

Re: Wolverine Claws

thanks guys, that's almost the same design I made... anyways I started playing around with aluminum or something like it (not sure how it's called) after several tries and different approaches I finally found a way that suits what I wanted to do... it's still a work in progress but it's a start

what I did was draw the shape of the blade on the aluminum and then cut 2 of them for each claw (one for each side). Then using sculpey III, I place the two cutouts together and filled the top of the blade to a certain width and tried to make it as smooth as possible, filled all the part that will go against my hand as well and then baked it. I'm still working on the handle so I can grab it confortably and look as real as possible. I'll paint the sculpey with silver at the end, covering the metal part so it doesn't get disturbed with the paint and stays all shiny with it's real look. I'll post pics as I progress but I guess it will be kinda slow since my time will get tight in a couple of days.

oh yeah they are kinda sharp though emoticon

Re: Wolverine Claws

ok so the truth comes out! I became interested in doing the claws because I got my hair kinda long (usually have it really short) and I left my beard grow the other day so everybody started calling me Wolverine and how I look like wolverine or if I'm a Logan fan or I have the wolverinish look... so anywho it wasn't my intention to look like wolverine but what the heck

I took a pic of myself with my hair wolverine style and the project I'm undergoing... plus a little photoshoping to remove the white parts between the claws and my hands

Image

yeah I know I need to get in shape but I'm lazy :)

Looking good, damn good actually. What about using JB weld or apoxie sculpt instead of the sculpey. Much stronger. I think apoxie sculpt comes in a silver metallic color as well.

as for getting in shape, the only shape you have to worry about is round.

thanks guys, I might give JB weld a try but I guess in a second set I could do later on or perhaps to reinforce these in the bottom. I'll finish these for now and see how they do.
