Making Custom Keaton Batarangs
I was toying with the idea of making a custom batarang, and was wanting some help/clarification. I'm thinking of making 2 Keaton style rangs. The generic one and the rope attached one (the flip style used to catch bad guy #1 on the rooftop).
Basically, I was planning on using a foam core board base, and using sculpy to make the edges, smooth it out, give the details, etc...I've read about using plasidip on things, and was assuming that it was some sort of coating or sealant that I could apply to give it a "plastic" feel. Am I correct on this?
Also, with the flip open style, has anyone made any of these? I was thinking of making the rang base, cutting it in half, and attaching some sort of tortion spring to it, to give it the flip open ability. HOwever, I'm having problems coming up with where to get the right sized spring, and I'd hate to walk into Home Depot or Lowes and have them look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them what I need it for.
Anyway, would this be a suitable way of going about making these? Am I right about the plastidip stuff? Know of a good torsion spring source? Does this mean I've reached the point of no return now that I want to make my own movie props (better make that straight jacket a size XL).
Thanks in advance

Re: Help making custom batarangs
I have had this on my mind for about 9 months. I haven't gotten to it yet though. :zzzz
Make it in four parts and mold it,then pour it in resin. It will be stronger. Someone who has seen and touched the original screen rang said it had rubber strips for the 'hinges',was fairly thin and one-sided(detailed on one side and flat one the other, which can clearly be seen in the film).
One day I'll get to it. :raiseeybrow

Re: Help making custom batarangs
i can probloby make one for you out of plastic... for torsion springs, ace hardware has a wider variety of springs than home depot, or if you can not find any there go here... www.mcmaster.com and scroll down to the bottom right under raw materials and look for springs.
dont say your making a batarang, say you are working on a school project or something like that. =)

**snip**dont say your making a batarang, say you are working on a school project or something like that. =) **snip**
That would work...or rather I can say I'm helping my son work on a school project. Unfortunately, there is no way I could pass for school age any more! (grumble grumble...damned balding gene...grumble grumble)
What do you charge for the plastic rangs and do you have pics? Do you have both styles? Drop me an email at [email protected].
Thanks again
