Very cool John....and I ofcourse want one if you end up making an extra one

what you need to do is find a supplier for BJB resin. They make a really sweat resin that is perfect for rangs....and if you want one that really looks rigid but is just slightly flexible to keep it from breaking tips and such they have a great one of those as well
that and they tint perfectly, especially their black pigment

wish I could recall the exact numbers for each but its been awhile since I had some here

you ran this one off in a two piece silicon mold correct??

Thanks Jay and yes I'll have a few extras.
I found a local hobby shop that has Alumilite resin and it seems to tint really well and cures in about 3 minutes. Just got it yesterday and messed around a little today and it works well. This stuff seems to be pretty strong too.
The molds are one piece...four total for each part of course. It's desribed as rubber,so I'm not sure what it is exactally. Smooth-On rubber mold and they're translucsent orange.

Alumilite is a great resin, just as good as BJB

Not sure exactly what their rubber mold material is as I havent used it but it looks like great stuff

translucent orange....... hum..... sounds like your molds are made from either jello or tang~

THERES ALWAYS ROOM FOR JELLO

hehe

great, I'll take an all black one if you have one~

just be careful with the tint...to much and you'll get a sticky slimy mess instead of a cured piece.... had that happen once myself
never again... I could also suggest an alcohol dye/tint but thats a BJB thing
not sure if alumilite would take to it

really sweat to see you finishing this
my interest in this rang is always peaked when its folded up since its the only one other then the sonar rang that ever folded in the films

cause as we all know every rang should fold dammit

I love Alumilte. Make sure you get it into your mold as soon as possible, and get your finger in there to get rid of any bubbles that might be clinging to the mold surface.

I would suggest vacume degassing it for sure
then you have very little to worry about in the bubble trouble

either that or pressure pot it...but the molds would need to have been made that way too

The molds are from Smooth-On. I don't have enough experience to compare them to anything, but the seem really good to me. Yeah, they look like orange jello.

I'm going to get a kit from Alumilite with silicone molds, resin and a few other things next weekend and mess around a little. I'll see what I come up with.

Vaccuum degassing is expensive, and not needed with an open faced mold. Use your finger, with a rubber glove, stick it into the mold, move it around. BAM! None, or very few bubbles on the surface of your casting.
Try it John.
