I can't wait to get out of the military and buy a home to do something like this to it. Amazing job.

I've been building in the cave and have been working on a custom desk. There are a few special tricks and batman style surprises left to showcase as the project progresses. But for now, I thought I'd reveal the current state of the 10 ft desk space. Hope you enjoy it. Again, my style is inspired by the Begins film with much of it coming from asian influences with some custom features.

Thanks mate. I still have to stain it of course and add some details to get it up to speed for the cave, but it's getting there.

Ok, I have completed the desk build. This desk is pretty huge. 65" across in the middle section and 48" on either side. So basically 13 feet of desktop. I wanted enough desk space for a 6 monitor array which you can see the mount for in the pictures. I'm currently building the computer worthy of the batcave, it's going to be a beast!

Image

Here I made a secret compartment in the top of the desk. I used door cylinders to hold it open and control the soft close. There is a button on the cylinder you press to keep the door open at whatever angle you wish and just lift slightly to release and allow it to close slowly. As you can see there is a section that I've installed tool foam for a secondary armory. Batarangs, mini mines, etc...will be added soon.

Image

This picture shows a better view of the secret compartment and lighting. I used an led tape light strip for an easy, low profile design. The lights are controlled with a small remote for different effects, or a switch that turns the lights on when the desk top is opened. I thought both options would give me more flexibility.
Image

An overall view of the desk. I built two display cabinets below the drawers. While it's hard to make out in the pictures, there is plexiglass covering both display areas. I didn't want dust to be an issue. I have my Hot Toys Tumbler and Dark Knight in the one as you can see, a Hulk/Spiderman diorama is in the other. For the Hulk/Spidey, I built a homemade turntable that slowly rotates when the lights are turned on. (It's a grill rotisserie motor mounted under a wooden box.) :wink This statue was too cool to only be able to view one side.

Image

The last two pictures are just different angles and one showing the cabinets I built at the end of the hall. You can faintly make out that I replaced the Tumbler with the Hot Toys Bat Pod and Catwoman figure. Hope you enjoyed the updates. More things to come as this cave build progresses. I've got some interesting ideas on the table. I need to get this computer built and installed. Can't wait to sit down here six monitors wide!
