Attaching cape to cowl... opinions? ('89)

Have you done it? If so, how is it done, preferably? Apart from velcro, are there other reversible ways that also look good?

I just know that the shape of the cape needs to be sit around the shoulders naturally. Not all the capes that they sell around have that privilege. Only a few!

I believe in the movie they were actually glued on each day, that's why you see Keaton put the cowl on via the mouth hole in some shots.
For real life practicality the only way I can think of getting a similar look without glue would be Velcro, or at a stretch, rare earth magnets. Once it's on though, my cowl doesn't seem to move all that much without any attachments, as long as you always remember to do the hero turn ;-)

Yeah... the hero turn is not a problem - seems to be built into my cowl already... emoticon

I would like to avoid permanently gluing them together... what about spirit gum? Or would that be devastating to the latex pieces?

Lol

Yeah, funny, that hero turn came pre fitted to mine too mate ;-) (great feeling isn't it )

Not sure about the spirit gum but my instinct is it would damage it over time. Hopefully one of the more experienced prop builders on here will know more :-)

I've attached my cowl to my cape using industrial strength velcro and add a very VERY small amount of super glue around the scallops to give it that studio quality seamless look.

As long as your cowl is held down to your cape with industrial velcro, all you need is small amount of super glue just on the very edges of the scallops.

Once it goes on, I know it's staying on for the long run. So I make sure it's mounted perfectly. But even then, if I need to pull it off the cape for whatever reason, the small amount of super glue won't be much of a problem. You just need enough to make sure the scallops don't pop up from your cape.

It really makes a difference when the scallops are held in place.

I only attached my cowl together with the emblem. I purposely let the scallops droop while it was on display so when I put it on it natural laid on my suit correctly.
This was so I could use the cape for a second suit if need be.

Thanks guys. Yes, the main problem is the way my scallops bend - cowl sits fine, but scallops are a bit too thick, so they won't droop naturally. I'm considering heating the scallops and letting the cowl hang from them for some time in order to tweak them a bit.

So what about spirit gum? Anybody tried it? I'm thinking it might be kinder to the rubber than super glue, especially if using the water-soluble kind.

Attach your cowl with the emblem? What do you mean by this exactly?

I've heard about attaching the cowl to the bat emblem. How is this done? Do you have pics? Please share.

Thanks!

Tony
