Val Kilmer recast?

So I was curious if anyone knew the reason why Val Kilmer didn't continue to play Batman in "Batman and Robin"? The roll of course going to George Clooney for that film.

According to sources close to the new production, Kilmer’s outspoken nature gave the studio and Bat director Joel Schumacher pause. As one former Kilmer producer says, ”Working with him…[is] like working with nitroglycerin. [It] can blow up on you.” While filming New Line’s Island of Dr. Moreau in Australia last fall, Kilmer instigated script rewrites and occasionally clashed with crew members. Kilmer’s agent would not comment, and New Line’s president of production, Michael DeLuca, who helped find a new director (John Frankenheimer) for Moreau after Kilmer and costar Marlon Brando ran roughshod over Richard Stanley, insists that Kilmer merely ”has uncompromising artistic integrity.”

Kilmer’s fears about Batman and Robin were much like Keaton’s after the first two films: the incredible shrinking Bat part. With each movie, Batman is upstaged further by the villains, babes, or sidekicks (in the next pic, Arnold Schwarzenegger is Mr. Freeze, Uma Thurman is Poison Ivy, and Chris O’Donnell and Alicia Silverstone are Robin and Batgirl). ”The others got all the attention,”

He was being irrational and ballistic with the first assistant director, the cameraman, the costume people," Schumacher told Entertainment Weekly. "He was rude and inappropriate. He was childish and impossible. I was forced to tell him that this would not be tolerated for one more second. Then we had two weeks where he did not speak to me but it was bliss!"

Wow, it is interesting to find out what happened behind the scenes!

Now I wonder if they had anyone else in mind to take on the Bruce Wayne / Batman roll besides George Clooney?

I think Clooney was still involved with the tv show ER back then.

The Batman franchise was wonderful because in 89 it didn't answer to outside forces and died because it gave into them, so they stopped doing the very thing that made the movies a success!
I hope they have learnt their lesson! BA is a great Batman but I am not keen on the what I would say are unnecessary changes to the suit for Justice league!

On top of what was mentioned, it was a terrible script. Much of the problem with Clooney was that he was handed a terrible script.

'Could have done much better going with an '89 vibe of a story.

But sometimes, big bucks makes people do want their helmets want to do and just ignore what fans want.

Oh, but I still have it on my shelf, since it came with the other movies in 1 set.

Sometimes we just have to enjoy the few good tidbits out of a movie that we are given.
