Re: Joker Origin

What about connecting it to the end of Begins... Could the Red Hood have left behind a Joker card?

Re: Joker Origin

well yea, i dont see why not...it can still be his calling card before his pchycological breakdown, after the accident. Maybe his card and the accident together will kind of point out his destiny to him "I always knew I was a joker...but know I am...The Joker!" that kinda thing.

Ok, this image is lame, but just look at the costume design... it's perfect styling for a Begins Joker.

Absolutely, SuperTeG. Being a sadistic wacko to begin with, this guy relishes leaving the Joker calling card as his murderous trademark. But he has normal hair, skin and mouth. And then, when the Monarch incident happens, he unconsciously tries to bury all his misery by flipping completely out with devilish mania! So what was once only his fantasy becomes reality, and what new levels of insane sado-masochism he then plunges into!

And while we're at it, since the distinguished Alan Napier played Alfred in the 1960s TV series -- in the next film, wouldn't it be appropriate to clear Mr. Napier's good name and leave the Joker's identity unknown as it always was in the comics?

One of my actors is hounding me about back story on a character. He says that if you have no explanation of who a character is, then the character is uncomprehendable to an audience. I would like to show the Joker before the accident, but I don't know if I should give him much back story into why he was breaking into Monarch. How about if this guy just is a maniac and let the audience just sit back for the ride?

Nameless is the best bet. Don't go into too much back story, his backstory is pretymuch a mystery to all of us...and im pretty sure we like it that way so why try to fix what aint broke.

Your actor is absolutely right. Your characters drive your story and plot, and will show you what to do.

Make him a sad man. Even the original inspiration of The Man Who Laughs portrayed great grief under the smile. As I recall from the comics or some short story, the Joker once had a daughter...

Re: Joker Origin

See, if you read The Killing Joke it explains how he was a failing stand up comedian who needed to get some money for his pregnant wife so they could become a happy family. So he got hooked up into the mob because he was an inside guy for a chemical plant he used to work at and could get the guys past security to the card factory next door. They made hime wear the Red Hood and help them. He didn't want to, but they then threatened to kill his expecting wife. He lets them into the building (wearing the red hood), things go astray, and security ends up everywhere around them. Batman comes in and sees the Red Hood. Joker tries to say that he's not the Red Hood and threatens to jump into a vat of chemicals if he doesn't back off. Batman tries to pull him away and he falls into the vat. He then washes out to the river. He walks to his apartment which is in flames. The mob torched his place, killing his wife. He then goes insane and seeks revenge on the mobsters and then Batman for turning him into the pale faced clown.

I think I combined The Killing Joke with a Gotham Knights retelling invloving the Riddler as a witness to who torched the Joker's place.
