Re: Are all superhero movies ruined by Hollywood?
Good call DKPGH. I couldn't agree more. What they don't realize is that people love the charcters and stories for what they are, without the need for drastic departures from the source.

That's a very good observation.
I also think part of it might be the mentality associated with comic books.
Director / Writer teams who do an adaptation of a novel or biography don't take nearly as many liberties wtih the source material as writers / directors who do comic book movies.
maybe because they feel comic books are "kids stuff" and they think they need to treat it as such or change it to fit what they think both kids and adults will see.
Excellent point. When will people understand that comics have more intricate plotting than most best-sellers? I've started a book called "Y: The Last Man." It is just excellent, and would make a great mini-series for Sci-Fi. But, they'll end up doing "Mansquito 2" or some junk.

I saw that somewhere. is it really good?
I think comics still haven't broken the ground that manga has. In Japan anyone reads manga because it's so broad (girls, gay, very dark, very bright, porn, cute, relationships, highschool........)
anyone can find wht he wants
comics don't seem to have that wide of a range.
but granted I don't know many so maybe I'm wrong.

Re: Are all superhero movies ruined by Hollywood?
Pure Hollywood ego. There is no reason to change Superman or Batman's basic costume design. Batman Dead End got it RIGHT. The directors just think they somehow know better than to leave alone characters that have stood strong for decades.
By the way, how do I post pics on these forums? Is there an "attach files" option?

Get a free photobucket account (or the likes) and upload the pic and insert the image or paste the link onto the BOTB message.

Re: Are all superhero movies ruined by Hollywood?
Batman: Dead End was good, but there's no one right answer when designing the costumes for Batman and/or Superman.
If that were true, then DC would only allow one art team to work on their comics.
Just look at how many variations there are of Batman's cowl (ear length, face shape and lines, etc), his bat-symbol (oval, no oval, shape of the bat itself), or Superman's S or his cape (with or without yellow S on the back)
The movies give us new costume designs, which the brilliant minds here at BOTB work into great new modifications, hybrids, and custom builds of their own. The hollywood-ized costumes are a big part of what start the superhero costuming craze in the first place.

Re: Are all superhero movies ruined by Hollywood?
Yes, there are tons of variations drawn by different artist BUT I'm fairly certain there has never been a version where Batman wore latex armor or where Superman had a thick 3-D symbol and looked about as buff as Spiderman :eyes
There may not be a "right" answer but there are clearly "wrong" ones.

Re: Are all superhero movies ruined by Hollywood?
good point, there are definitely a lot of "wrong" looks out there. halle berry's Catwoman, alicia silverstone as batgirl in batman & robin, dolph lundgren's 1990s punisher, that live action JLA pilot...
