Although the US runs at 120volts most new homes now have 240volts split between two wires.

My Dads an electrician and I have had more shocks than I can count(might explain a few things)

As for stun guns,they give all their volts at once in a short sharp shock but at very low amps, a lot of pressure but very low intensity.
