NINJA TURTLE SUITS
I have been wanting for a long time to build a Ninja Turtle costume based on the films costumes but I don't know where to start. Can any one help me or if anyone has tried to make one, what are some ideas? Thanks.

Re: NINJA TURTLE SUITS
This has been a long, pointless journey for many
At one point someone was making a resin/fiberglass Turtle shell, but apparently that was scrapped
I had emailed someone in possession of an original Donatello head from TMNT III, and got some rather sweet pics, but nobody (myself included, seeing as how I'm always short on cash) ever constructed an original head afterwards
Someone had the idea to just buy a generic musclesuit from Paul and mod it for the Turtle body, but I don't think anything ever came from that as well
There's a ton of different ways to construct a suit, but I don't believe anyone's gone the whole mile yet :(

Re: NINJA TURTLE SUITS
Well, I've thought of some things to try. I'd personally like to try them myself.
Split-toe ninja tabi boots. The single toe-split in them makes them perfect for ninja turtle feet. If you can find some with calves that could blend into a latexed wetsuit, that would be perfect. Or, maybe ninja-style socks could be thickened with latex(?)
Wet suit with a muscle suit attached. Airbrushed to look like a turtle underbelly.
The wetsuit/muscle suit and ninja footwear would need to be made to blend into eachother, of course.
Fiberglass turtle shell, worn on a harness. This may have to be sculpted and cast.
The head would simply have to be sculpted and cast. I can't imagine any way around it. The human head is long and the turtle head is kinda squished-looking, and there's no other way I can see, unless you wanna try running your head into a wall a few thousand times. :p
Headbands - the easiest part of the suit. Why not make all four?
Weapons - collect your own, or make some fake ones(I'm one for collecting).

Any chance of getting those pics? I've seen some pics of the suits here and there, as well as in a book, might have been "no strings attached."
As far as doing it, I'd love to, think it'd be fun...but you need 3 other people and a rat. Really, if each of 4 people did a part it'd make things a lot easier and cheaper, and that much cooler.
If you're just doing one, for the shell, if you did the sculpt from foam sheet, then sealed with wood glue you could epoxy right over it, after curing take some acetone and melt out the foam, then clean it up add mounting for the harness and that's done. Cheaper then molding and casting. You could thicken up a batch of epoxy with filler to do the final detail work. If you;re doing it for 4 people, mold and cast is more practical.
Have to sculpt the head, but unless you;re going foam latex, and even if you are, without an understructure don;t expect it to move well if at all. The heads in the movies were animatronic. $$$ From what I remember the shell held all the servos and stuff to make them work.

Re: NINJA TURTLE SUITS
About 6 months ago i found a site on google, whit a lot of cool behind the scene stuff of Turtles 2, showing the suits.
The body suits was basically a wetsuit, it was open from the neck to the waist, and everything was strapped on whit velcro or clips.
The legs was 2 part, the upper body was in one piece whit the legs down to the knee's, then rest of the legs were from the knees and down to the feet including the feets.
those rubber knee bands were then attached for a seamless look on the knees.
And when the shell was on, the front and back was covered.
Same whit the gloves, like the legs, the gloves goes to the armbow, then they use those rubberband things to get rid of the "seam".
I wish i could find that site again because they had very cool pics of the suits.
And you could get an idea how they were made.
I've been wanting to see someone make a replica of those TMNT suits for a long time, they are so freaking cool :)
