Re: I've seen Superman Returns
A lot of the more "original" elements are in the novel and will probably show up on the DVD as deleted scenes or extended scenes
for example:
Lex revealing to Superman during their fight on New Krypton that he wrote the article about the astronomers finding the planet, to trick Superman into leaving Earth.
Clark visiting the fragments of Krypton in a newly built crystal spaceship.
When Clark comes back to Smallville, he finds out that his mom is seeing Ben Hubbard, and they're going to sell the farm and move to Montana. I think this is by far the most original element of the Returns story, having Clark deal with the idea of getting a stepfather and losing his childhood home.

Re: I've seen Superman Returns
Doh!! I'm sure Singer will do another great film.
I really liked the ending to Returns, straight from the Reeve films. Hope they do that at the end of the next film too, it's Superman's thing and he does it so well.

Re: I've seen Superman Returns
There was a story yesterday that they will not make a sequal if the movie does not make over 200 million dollars. The movie apparently cost between 203 260 million to make, and so far it has only brought in about 170 million from the box office.

I read the same thing on Yahoo! in their news section.
There is also this article that I found:
Singer wants Superman Returning in '09

Re: I've seen Superman Returns
As far as "any superhero movie is better than none", barely in my opinion. The movie was a tremendous bore and was only redeemed by the action footage. They would have done better to have started from scratch rather than rehash the 1970's. Why didn't they just continue the campy 1966 Batman series for Batman Begins? They could have had Bale imitate Adam West, wouldn't that have been a hoot. As for Superman Returns, loved the action hated the movie. They missedd the target by a mile.

Re: I've seen Superman Returns
I agree Batmack. The story was very weak! After the climactic defeat of Superman by Lex, he gets saved, recharges and then... nothing!!! The damage was already done by the black crystal island so instead of getting Lex and bringing him to justice he picks up the island and sends it in to space. Why!!? This served no purpose. Then, after making everyone think he was on his death bed he gets better and... goes spying on Lois!!! Why not get Lex and bring him to justice? The whole movie was him expecting to get back with Lois after HE LEFT HER HIGH AND DRY FOR FIVE YEARS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING HE ALREADY KNEW DIDN'T EXIST!!!
Superman: "Lois, I love you very much but instead of staying on Earth and inspiring the best in everyone while helping make peoples lives better and also continuing our relationship, I think I'll take off for 5 years for absolutely no good reason. You see Lois, I think my real father, Jor-El, is a total liar. I don't really think the planet blew up. I think he sent me to Earth because he wanted to spend some quality time with Lara-El."
Also, how could he loose his powers on the island standing their for all of a minute but not loose them picking up the island with huge shards of kryptonite all around him? Plus, all incarnations of Superman including the ones that this movie was based on show kryptonite causing serious pain to Superman as it takes his powers away. He was completely pain free on the island and in fact had no idea that his powers were gone.
Another point. The original movie showed a single green crystal was the one that built the fortress. The crystals that were made in the fortress were clear and were used as high -tech CD's that contained information. Why would information storage devises now be capable of building crystal cities?
I could go on and on.
This is not meant as a rant on anyone who enjoyed the movie. I wanted to enjoy it but couldn't. I'm glad anyone did enjoy it and I hope they do make more (with a better story and director).
