I probably have it in my stack of Wizard mags but it would take just this side of forever to find it again. But if you do find it let me know the issue number. I know exactly what you mean with A History of Violence. I was expecting a LOT more from it (even though I'd never read the graphic novel) and it was nothing more than just a decent film to me. My point was that I didn't hate it. From everything I have ever gathered he wasn't miserable all the time. Most who were close to him contend that he wasn't depressed enough to kill himself. And it is often reported that he was excited about the cast getting together for another season of Superman. (Because back then they would go years between shooting the seasons) But he most certainly expressed that he felt trapped in the role of Superman. Hopefully this film will find that balance that it needs like I think it will.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Terry McGinnis)Sun, 09 Jul 2006 22:49:43 +0000 Re: Finally what looks like a GOOD Superman movie!https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746738,from=rss#post1746738https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746738,from=rss#post1746738Yeah, I have an issue of Wizard where they did something about Reeves death. I'll have to go back and look that up. Terry, I know you've said that before, I was just Razzin' ya... There are movies that I didn't care for, and was disappointed about, no matter how much I was looking forward to them coming out, so I understand when you want so badly for something to be good, then it just ends up sucking. I saw "A History of Violence," and I knew it was based on a graphic novel... I was more than disappointed. Now V for Vendetta, that was a different story... Ok, end of :hijack . I think this movie is gonna look good... From what I've heard Noel Niel say about Reeves he wasn't horribly miserable all the time. I just hope they don't make him appear that way. There might be a fine line there, and if they don't make him appear happy at all, then there will be no question he killed himself. Someone who was miserable all the time would be more likely to kill himself than someone who has potential prospects. It's the same for someone who feels "trapped" by the role of Superman. If someone feels like they can't get out, they'd be more likely to commit suicide than someone who actually enjoys playing the role. Just my .02. And then flashbacks of Affleck as Reeves throughout as Brody's character looks into his life. But I don't know that for sure.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Terry McGinnis)Sun, 09 Jul 2006 22:16:56 +0000 Re: Finally what looks like a GOOD Superman movie!https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746736,from=rss#post1746736https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746736,from=rss#post1746736Ah ok, SO Affleck plays Reeves till his death and then Brody is investigating the death. Well my english is pretty bad since im swede, specially when i hear it in audio. It also depends on what kind of accent they talk in, south or north. Not to mention its late here and i cant put the speakers up high, and dont have any head sets :rollin Anyway... Im looking forward to see this movie, Looks intresting!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Proximo)Sun, 09 Jul 2006 21:05:53 +0000 Re: Finally what looks like a GOOD Superman movie!https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746735,from=rss#post1746735https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746735,from=rss#post1746735Well, the film is about a detective, played by Adrien Brody, investigating the mysterious death of George Reeves (Affleck). The star is actually Brody as we watch him unfold what happened to lead to Reeves death. Pretty easy to gather from the trailer. I didn't have any audio trouble, maybe your speakers weren't up all the way. :wink nondisclosed_email@example.com (Terry McGinnis)Sun, 09 Jul 2006 20:47:56 +0000 Re: Finally what looks like a GOOD Superman movie!https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746734,from=rss#post1746734https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746734,from=rss#post1746734So this is a movie about George Reeves when he was playing Superman? And after he dies, they investigate? Sorry but i had hard time hearing what they said in the trailer, But this is what i understand from it.. So do i understand it right or not? :rollin nondisclosed_email@example.com (Proximo)Sun, 09 Jul 2006 20:26:31 +0000 Re: Finally what looks like a GOOD Superman movie!https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746733,from=rss#post1746733https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746733,from=rss#post1746733Oh HAYL YES! And I loathe Ben A$$fleck. George Reeves was Superman to me when I was a kid. I used to watch the reruns when I got home from school. He turned up on an ep of "I Love Lucy" once when Superman was supposed to show up at Little Ricky's birthday party. I did hear an interview with the guy who played Jimmy Olsen on NPR. Here's the linkJimmy O on Reeves In this story he says he believes Reeves did kill himself, but has questions since he saw three bullet holes in the wall. Who knows? I do think it will be a great movie that will have limited appeal, like an "Ed Wood" or "American Splendor." About time they did this story. I'm not so sure he was miserable either, other than about being type cast. I don't think he led an unhappy life and I don't think he commited suicide. He was set to marry Lenore Lemmon three days after he died, after ending a long time affair with Toni Mannix, wife of studio exec. Eddie Mannix. From what I understand, the affair was no big secret. Anyway,I always believed he was murdered due to this affair and impending marriage in some capacity. Actually,he had too much going for him at the time to commit suicide,IMO. Like maybe Marilyn Monroe shot him after being brainwashed by the Grays. I'm pretty sure that isn't an accepted theory. :lol But many people tend to believe George Reeves death wasn't a suicide (even the guy who played Jimmy on the show with him says to this day he doesn't really believe it). I mean, it's kind of hard for a man to shoot himself but not leave fingerprints on the gun. Also, as it says in the trailer, what kind of man misses at shooting himself and leaves bullet holes in the floor? There are a lot of unanswered questions revolving around Reeves death. Many more than I even know of I'm sure, I only know the basics. I'm looking forward to this film and what it will show. As for George being miserable. He was and he wasn't. He was tired of playing the same old character and the only work he could get during those last few years during Superman was a guest role on I Love Lucy...as Superman. He had the kiss of death in hollywood, being peg-holed in a role. That's why he had come to dislike the role, he couldn't be anything but Superman. He was excited about another season because he still enjoyed the people he worked with and so forth. The film looks like it is going to do an excellent job of portraying that from what I have seen and heard.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Terry McGinnis)Sun, 09 Jul 2006 13:46:09 +0000 Re: Finally what looks like a GOOD Superman movie!https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746728,from=rss#post1746728https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746728,from=rss#post1746728That looks like it could be a good film. He was tired of playing superman for a little while because nobody would hire him for other roles (because he was so well known for superman). He was even excited that a new superman season was picked up around the same time period he died. I Kinda wish it was more of a bio-pic like "Dragon: A Bruce Lee Story" (which was a little off fact but you get the point) or like "Walk the Line". nondisclosed_email@example.com (NOMAD202)Sat, 08 Jul 2006 23:18:46 +0000 Re: Finally what looks like a GOOD Superman movie!https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746725,from=rss#post1746725https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746725,from=rss#post1746725Well, it's going to be kinda hard for the film not to include conspiracy theories, that's half the point I think. The film however will more than likely be akin to JFK in that it will introduce many different ideas and lets you decide. Part of the reason I think it will be brilliant. And if you're fool enough to think George Reeves killed himself then this movie might just open your eyes. You ask me Affleck looks better with that S on his chest that Routh or Chris Reeve on any given day. But you're right, it is a big surprise that we are gonna have him wearing the S after wearing the D's and horns (and I liked DD too) Lewis, as I have said to you on two previous occasions in two other threads I have a great many things I like, even love. Here, for the third time, I will repost my response to you, and no, you're not "kicked out of my thread" :lol : "Yes, though I don't feel like I have to validate my opinion, there are plenty of comic book live action adaptations that I am a fan of. Sadly, most of the well-known ones are all Marvel characters. I am a fan of both Spiderman films, all the X-Men films, Punisher and Daredevil (though it has its flaws, the director's cut is pretty awesome and makes up for some of its short comings). I also like lesser known comic character movie adaptations such as Constantine, V for Vendetta, The Shadow, Hellboy was pretty decent, American Splendor is a comic book movie though contains no superheroes, A History of Violence (yes, it was based on a graphic novel) and there are others. As for cartoon adaptations Batman: The Animated Series is an adaptation and nothing has gotten even CLOSE to getting it as right as a kid s cartoon show has. That's rather sad. Also, Justice League (especially when it became Unlimited) is amazing. Another "kid’s show" that gets it better than big TV/movie execs However, of all those live action films, none are perfect panel to screen movies (Sin City is the only film to have done that yet and I dislike both the comic and the movie). That isn't what I look for in a comic book movie. First, I look for a movie that, as a stand alone film, is of any quality and then, after that fact, I judge it based on it as an adaptation of a comic book character. All I require in that sense is that they stay true to the essence of the character. Films like any of the Batman movies or hell and of the Superman movies (and what appears to be the upcoming Returns) don't do that. Not even close. Just like with Smallville. And, in Smallville's case it sucks on two fronts. It is a poorly written show AND a horrible Superman story. The only way it could get much worse was if Clark fights a giant spider in the season finale. And, as I've sad before: I just don't easily like crap. Slapping an S on some dude's chest doesn't make him Superman and put ears on another's head doesn't make him Batman. Too many, I think, easily love something just because it says a certain name. It happens in society all the time, it's why brand names sell better and at higher prices than generic items. People love the name, be damned everything else." nondisclosed_email@example.com (Terry McGinnis)Sat, 08 Jul 2006 22:36:07 +0000 Re: Finally what looks like a GOOD Superman movie!https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746724,from=rss#post1746724https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1746724,from=rss#post1746724I saw a preview for this. I think it looks amazing... I just hope they have alot more that's based on fact rather than have a bunch of conspiracy theories. Who'd'a ever thunk that we'd ever see Affleck in a SUpes outfit... Especially after Daredevil (which I admittedly didn't think was that bad.) On the other hand, I thought Supes Returns was awesome... I just don't think you like anything, Terry... ...
