Re: Leather cowl progress report : A good day for GA
I like your continued developmental thinking, GA. I'd say back attaching would be best, even if you have to expand the neck a bit for ease and comfort. And with that powerful hard shell, you might want to consider cutting in some artful venting that could bring in air and also make the cowl even more scary.
Again, fabulous work, simply fabulous!!

Re: Leather cowl progress report : A good day for GA
OMG that is looking amazing- -how much can you hear whan you wear it? I think the front opening would work personally, presumably that would help more as far as getting it on and off and therefore have less risk of overstretching it. I didn't realise this has taken you almost three years you must be feeling pretty good right now as the whole thing is starting to be complete -amazing work bro - I hope I can get to see it one day (we still have to have that coffee)More pics please.

I wish that was as easy to replicate as a latex cowl... I would have you make one for me! Great job man!

Re: Leather cowl progress report : A good day for GA
You know, theoretically you could replicate it as a latex cowl.
Just make one up, attach it to a headcast and mould it. You'd ruin the original cowl though, but the result could concievably be very nice looking and a skilled person could probablt make it up to look just like the real thing.
I'm certainly not reccommending GA do that, but if they were to use a leather cowl in a feature film (come on Nolan, be a little original!), re-casting a leather cowl in latex or other form of "rubber" woul be a great way to make stunt-cowls and spares etc. Only the "hero" cowls would be leather.

Re: Leather cowl progress report : A good day for GA
Luke: “It's utterly unique.” Ah! Kind, but no. Really no. It’s just a “stick to the comics” and resist fancying it up too much design. You are right about the enclosed mouth: I’d have liked to make it wider but unless you are blessed with a massive square batman jaw (which I am not) then this served the overall look I wanted better. I’ve opened it out more in the V2, but only a little. (also the eyes are less almond as per your last suggestion way back.) As always your input is really very helpful.
Zane : With any luck artful venting shouldn’t be a requirement (I Hope. I so hope!) – only the top part is fibreglass – the lower section is a second layer of leather
(see bad photoshop for eg) so it should breathe a little. I could put fans in the ears tho!!!!
Which brings me to Lukes other question – mobility.
I made the undershell leather section too damn thick and boiled it too long so it’s not as flexible as I’d like – V2 will be more flexible and so get those “old shoe” lived in wrinkles which (to my mind) will give it more of a real world look. Again, I hope!
I did mean to take more pics this w/e but got distracted - next week if the light is good.

Fantastic job GA,
It is truly a work of art and it looks menacing on you. I bet it's a hell of a lot cooler than the latex. It's great when a plan comes together.

Re: Leather cowl progress report : A good day for GA
I have always seen those molded Leather masks that the they make for costume balls and all that and i just thought that well just what your doing .... just keep the leather molding all they way back to a cowl and waa la! now hey is that one piece? if not where are like the seams and how are you blending them. the last Leather cowl i saw was ..ok but way too many seams

Awesome. Just awesome GA. I'm totally speechless. Keep up the great and successful work you do on this cowl. Can't wait to see the final version.
