White Eyes - Contacts vs. Lenses

Hey there, i found something and i'd like your opinions on this. I think most everyone agree that the withe eyes in batman comics are cool.
Image

But they cannot be brought to life in films because of the eyes holes in cowls are static and usually kinda big, so covering'em would look a little bit funny. Plus, we would miss the eyes expression of the actor wich is really important emotionwise. (something that artists can do with the cowls as much as they want in comics...)

(excuse the quick photoshop work...).

But what if only the eyes of the actor were withe (let's put aside the functionnality of the batsuit and only look at Batman from a decorative figure point of view). Something like this (also done in less than a minute):

Do you think this would be cool? We keep emotions of the actor and we add the comic look.

The point of my question is that i'm planning a fan film and i'm thinking of adding white lenses to the actor (who will wear a begins costume).

Those lenses: CLICK HERE

So please let me know what you think.

thx

Those lenses would be pretty cool.
They had lenses in one scene on Batman Begins, Remember the train scene right before Batman flys out.. when he blinks once you can clearly see they had a contact lense in that scene.
Not sure if it was completly white, but it was deffently a change between his natural eyes.

Also, in Batman: Dead End, Clark Bartram wore white contact lenses to get that effect - the white look of the comics/animated stuff while still getting the expression from the eyes. Looked pretty eerie...

They would look scary but did you read the part that says they 'restrict all vision', I wouldnt want to do the risk assessment for having a blind actor on set.

lmao

Bale is rolling his eyes back in the scene you mention. Just as he does when he jumps at Ras's "two pawns". Good try though.

There are some white ones on this site.

http://www.gothic.uk.com/acatalog/BLOCK_LENSES.html#aFWBREDa

The only other white lenses (for sunglasses) I ever found were from china and had a minimum order of 100 pairs.

I don't know why people are always discussing how lenses could be done when Daredevil did it 3 or 4 years ago.

Yes, if you just chucked lenses in to the existing eyeholes of the Begins cowl (or any other Batman cowl), they'd be too big, and the wrong shape. And yes, if you use contact lenses your actor won't be able to see.

But if you design a cowl with lenses in mind, you can make the eyeholes the right size and shape so that they'll look absolutely great.

Make that cowl prosthetic-like, and make those lenses semi-transparent, and you'll not only be able to show the actor's real eyes when you need, and demonic, reflective glowing white slits when you want BUT you'll also be able to have the actor show some actual changes in expression, if only limited to basic eyebrow movements. Frowning with concern, raising eyebrows with surprise, raising one eyebrow quizzically, etc. In fact, you'll be able to do everything he does in the cartoons.

But, innovation seems to be a dirty word where feature-film batsuit designers are concerned.

Ok, first things first. In "Dead End" Clark wore two different white lenses. For the closeups he wore the blind eye, solid white lenses. They don't make solid white lenses any other way. and when I say "blind" I mean just that, you have ZERO visibility as it is indeed covering your pupil.

Now, for other shots of the film (especially ones involving a lot of movement from him, he wore jut white lenses that only cover the color part of your eye leaving an area for your pupil to see clearly through. These type are a dime a dozen and can be found for varying prices all over the internet. It's what I would recommend and what I always though would look great in many superhero costumes. While 9mm does offer the white eyes with visibility the price is far more than required for the desired effect. 9mm is a professional contact fx company that hand paints every single lens and thus their cost. You can find white lenses for a fraction of the price probably locally.

Hey, in V for vendetta you dont even get to see the actors face at all but i didn't think it took away from his performance. As long as the actor knows what he is doing and he is good at it, lenses on the eyes shouldn't matter.

I like the idea of just making the eye holes smaller and attaching lenses to them. I could totally see it being two big dark grey pieces of glass.
