How To Fix Torn Armor

While removing my Janty '89 chest from the old bodysuit that was glued down with DAP contact cement, I tore into the chest armor. Actually, the right bicep.

The tear is about three inches long and slightly jagged. I plan on gluing it back onto a new bodysuit, but would like as much advice as possible before doing so.

I had tried brushing liquid latex onto the bodysuit, but didn't do a very good job, because the mannequin I had the suit on, was smaller than I was... So it was very tight on me when I tried to put it on. Which is why I'm removing the armor from the old bodysuit.

What are my options, guys?!?!

Here's a couple of pictures of my stupidity...

Re: HELP!! I tore my '89 armor! How should I fix it?

Join the two pieces back together on the outside using some gaffer tape. Make sure the tape covers the whole of the tear and that there are no gaps in the join.

Then on the inside of the tear, brush black tinted liquid latex. Use as many layers as necessary and allow to dry completely.

Once the latex is cured, carefully remove the tape. The tear should now be joined showing only a hairline crack. Spray the area with several light coats of black plasti-dip until the crack is no longer visible.

Hope this helps.

I’m not much good with latex – but I can see from your palm that you will have a long life and are soon to go on a journey of some description.

Good luck with the mend.

Do what PJ said, it's a quick, simple fix. You could even superglue it together.

Another thing that would help is brushing latex onto both sides of the depth of the crack. Allow both side to dry then using the same method described above join the two back together. The properties of the latex will cause it to stick back together (any one that has ever pulled a cowl from a mould without using talculm powder inside the cowl first will know what I mean).

Okay! Thanks Paul! :up Gotta' love Plasti-Dip.

Matt, I thought of that as well... would Crazy Glue work? emoticon

And GA... Somehow, upon seeing your Avatar and knowing your personality from here, I expected a humorous comment. :lol

Thanks guys.

As for glue ... if you do use any, get the Bondini gel .. less mess and more control

Just did the same dang thing to my just received Janty panther right leg. Last night did the saran wrap thing (wot fun that is!!) Chest held fine. Left leg fine. Right leg, not fine. This morning trying again. Won't hold, except for a couple spots. Trying to remove it and put industrial velcro on, tugging it loose, it's coming up easy, noise outside, dogs bark, turn and look while pulling and RIP! The whole top 5" rips right off. :frown :frown :cussing :cussing :geez :geez

Talk about feeling like a lameass. Event is at 4:30 today.

Currently about to try and seam it w/ industrial velcro, put super glue in the tear, blue mask it together, run to Michael's for some latex, brush on, hope it drys fast and spray plasti dip on it.

Dang it. And woke up sick yesterday, so I haven't been ontop of my game as it is.

Criminey, what a drag.

Stick with PJ's advice. It WILL work..Do not bondini the tear, it will make the area brittle and more suseptible to tearing again.. To strengthen the area once you actually repair the rip place a layer of latex soaked medical gause or cheese cloth on the inside and once it's dry to the touch add several more coats of latex. Once fully cured (2 days or so) it'll all be bonded as one piece.
