My armor is strapped down as well. I use one on each arm, one on the neck, and three on the chest and abdomin area, but I think two would have been sufficient.
On the legs I have one on the waist, one around the thigh, and one behind the knee. I may attatch a thin web belt to the legs to help keep them from slinking down while walking around.
I've found that I stay cooler since there is some air circulating between the latex parts and my lyrca wetsuit.
