Hello,
I was hoping that people could post pictures of their custom utility belts and weapons. I am trying to get ideas.
Thanks Greg

Re: utility belts/weapons
Thanks man...I wanted something that went with original size and close to the original style (shape-wise), but I also wanted to take my own direction with it.

You ever going to spill the beans and tell us how you made this work of art?

Re: utility belts/weapons
here's my belt, nothing fancy, but i like it. it's a timemaster belt that we added a decorative curtain rod dealie to for the buckle.

Re: utility belts/weapons
Thanks again for the kind words GA. Here's a basic suit rundown for you:
As you know David did the cowl, based loosely off of the Masterpiece Edition Batman figure and other reference materials he could find.
I had the cape made to custom specs from a local seamstress. It's made of black wedding satin, with midnight blue wedding satin lining. It has a flat, adjustable snap around neck tab that keeps it from rolling in the front and holds it close together for that "draped over" look.
The gloves are standard "lace-up" black hawking gloves. I never liked the purple of the original gloves, and thought these were very true to the time period. I did chose to go the original route however, and decided against including glove fins.
The emblem is from one of the bat templates that I made and I just printed it out and cut it from pleather. DT & I then glued it to the front of the bodysuit. (Tip: sewing would probably produce a better hold for this type of emblem).
The boots are standard cavalier boots, cut down to point just below the kneecap.
The bodysuit was custom made out of a textured sports blend. I wanted something that reflected the "heavy textile" feel of the era, while still being flexible and form fitting. I would like to update this bodysuit with an even heavier material for future use, but finding the correct texture and thickness has proven to be challenging.
The briefs were custom made from a poly-blend of some sort...very little flex to them, so they didn't slide around or draw up much.
The belt was a nylon/leather weight lifting belt that I picked up from a local department store. I used the bottom of a CD spindle for the outer buckle; the inner bat area is a PC fan cover. I used two skittles mint candy plastic containers for the inside compartments and two Winston plastic cigarette containers for the outer compartments.
To get the industrial look that I was going for I painted the metal Batman PC fan cover with copper acrylic paint, then I gave it a light, uneven drybrush with gold acrylic. After it was dry I gave it a black wash.
For the plastic components I started by using a chrome spray enamel for a nice reflective base coat. I then gave them the same copper acrylic coating that I had used on the fan cover, followed by the same uneven, splotchy gold acrylic drybrush. I then gave them several coats of black wash for extra weathering effect. After that was dry I coated the pieces in clear enamel spray, which causes a chemical reaction in the acrylic and makes it "wrinkle" and produces a heavily weathered and textured look. I then added one more black wash to dull the finish back down a bit. I wish the pics would have picked up this detail a bit better, but the flash and metal paint combination makes it very bright looking.
After that I bolted the PC fan cover to the CD spindle and ran the outer bolts through the belt itself. I used bolts on the buckle to try to produce an industrial feel to the piece.
I used epoxy glue on the belt compartments to secure them to the nylon area of the belt since using bolts in this area would have interfered with wearing the belt comfortably.
After the initial components were assembled I added two clip hooks to the leather straps in the front of the belt. To the strap on the left side of the belt I added 35ft. of black nylon rope that I picked up from the local hardware store.
For the left side of the belt I used a toy Batman grappling hook such as this one. I cut the handle off and attached an eye bolt through the body of the toy with locking nuts at either side of the plastic to keep it from sliding or the bolt from working loose. I then gave the entire grappling hook a quick shot of high gloss black enamel to give it a unified metal look.
I think that about covers it, but just ask if you want to know anything else about the suit.
