Re: Painting the Rubies Begins belt question
yeah, I went and masked all the silver areas on mine-what a pain. But it looked good in the end. A hobby shop should have the silver paint pens(like testors)so that should work. There are also pens sold at some motorcycle shops for use on tires, to highlight lettering and such. Lockhart Phillips- I believe is the brand name. When using pens just be careful of "runoff"-sometimes they flow heavier than you would like. Good luck bro! :up

Re: Painting the Rubies Begins belt question
Yeah, I used the paint pens that you find at Wal Mart in the model section. It worked great, and didn't take any time at all. I went over it once, let it dry, and went over it again. I didn't have any trouble of the paint running, either, just don't press down really hard, and you'll be fine. For the screws on the front of the buckle I got a small thing of silver model paint, and a VERY fine brush, and just filled them in with paint, this was quite tedious, but it was worth it in the end. I also went over the whole thing with 2 coats of clear coat. Most people don't do this, but I just wanted to make sure the colors were locked in. However, if you do decide to go with a clear coat, I suggest you take the black disk out of the center of the buckle, just to keep the dull/shiney contrast. If you don't, then the black will look shiney, too, which I don't think is as cool... I hope this helps!!!

Re: Painting the Rubies Begins belt question
I tried the pen from Testors but it just came out too wet and wouldn't really take to the brass paint.
So I got a brush and a little bottle of silver testors and that worked better cause I could smooth everything out.
The pic below was my frist trial but after several coats it looks fantastic!!

Re: Painting the Rubies Begins belt question
I didn't have a problem. Just make sure every thing is dry after you paint. My mistake was that I tried to spray the brass too soon before the primer dried. I ended up doing a lot of sanding. :sick

Re: Painting the Rubies Begins belt question
I didn't read all the suggestions, but get some Tamyia aluminum or chrome and just use a brush....absolutely nothing to it at all.
You DO NOT need to mask it and spray it. Tamyia is the sh*t for something like this. It will level, flatten out as it dries,so long as you use smooth strokes. Go over it twice. You will see some brass after the first coat, but by the time you're done with all the links(10 mins. tops),it'll be dry enough to go back to the first one and continue without stopping for the second coat.
That should be all you need. :wink

Re: Painting the Rubies Begins belt question
Here's another question. Did you guys take the links apart before painting it or did you guys paint it with it all linked. See, I'm lazy and don't want to take it all apart but I'm thinking if I did that, there will be some missed spots.
