Year One Style Belt - Pics & Assembly Rundown

Image

I started with a Quick connect two inch wide Police Duty belt that had Velcro a long the inside of the belt. (Cheap no name brand from local cop shop store).

I purchased two sets of French ammo carriers from Cheaper Than Dirt. (I stuffed the ammo carriers with padding to give the effect of having lots of gadgets).

I acquired the Bat Utility buckle from Artsee1.
Image

The belt is actually worn backwards so the plastic quick connect is worn at the small of the back and covered by the cape. (ref. pic 1).

I used two inch wide industrial strength Velcro (fuzzy side) and glued it to the back of the belt with DAP wellwood contact cement. I made it a little longer than the BAT buckle.
Image

I glued one strip of the harder Velcro side to the middle of the BAT Utility buckle.

I cut the same length fuzzy Velcro as the one glued down the middle of the BAT buckle and then cut that piece down the center and glued each segment above and below the middle strip on the BAT buckle.
Image

After drying, I attached the BAT buckle to the belt and took the hard side Velcro and measured three vertical strips to attach from the back of the belt to the top and bottom of the BAT buckle.

I cut equal vertical strips of the fuzzy Velcro to attach to the sticky side of the hard Velcro to act as backing (it really serves no other purpose other than it’s soft and shouldn’t damage any suit it rubs against).
Image

The three back strips of the hard Velcro are what really affixes the BAT buckle to the belt because the fuzzy Velcro already on the inside of the belt and strips of fuzzy Velcro glued to the back of the BAT buckle on the top and bottom really help it stay in place.

I initially only had the strips of Velcro in the middle of the BAT buckle and on the belt but I had troubles with the BAT buckle falling off when sitting down or getting up and the BAT buckle would not stay affixed on the sides.
Image

I figured that the inside of the belt already had the fuzzy Velcro so why not make good use of it and so I anchored the BAT buckle down with the fuzzy Velcro on the top and bottom of the BAT buckle and the inside of the belt and utilizing the vertical strips of the hard sided Velcro.

Cool belt!

Nice choice of pouches, looks quite similar to the belt worn on the popular Jim Lee Batman Statue!

Looks very functional, excellent job!

Hee hee. "Get her." That was your whole plan. I like it; it was scientific.

Looks good Sean. Sorry to hear you dropped the buckel on the concrete while installing it but glad to hear it stayed intact except for a chip of paint on the corner. By the way these buckels are generic and inexpensive and I would be glad to help others out if you are looking for this type of thing. [email protected]

Re: BATMAN YEAR ONE STYLE UTILITY BELT

I had sent an email to Paul letting him know how durable these buckles are.

Before I secured the buckle with the three strips in the back the Buckle launched off the belt and took a header right into the concrete a couple of times... As if I didn't learn the first time around.

The only damage was a scuff on the paint in the corner but no cracks or chips.

These buckles are a great price for the quality and durability you get.

ALL THANKS to Paul, the buckle makes the belt.
