Re: Painting Bronze Armory '89 Urethane Belt??? Resin Emblem???

Mike Paoletti (I believe he now goes by XBox Bat or something like that) had a process a few years ago where he stained the belt. he did a few for me very reasonably and they are holding up fine. I however do then the same way as Jants usually. It does work best but in a pinch maybe ol Mike will offer some advice here (if he's still around)..

Hmmm... I don't really have the tools, materials, knowledge, etc. to re-mold it and re-cast it, although I would like to try at some point... I think I'll go ahead and take a damp rag and wipe as much of the gold off as I can, and maybe try to re-start from scratch... I might look around Wal-Mart and see what I can come up with... Maybe there's some sort of crazy paint out there that will actually adhere to Urathane, although I'm not holding my breath...

Well John, if you want to go the painting route -- and you don't try Bernie's simple approach -- there are three things you can do:

1. First, use regular paint thinner and rub all the paint off with a soaked cloth. Do this regardless of which approach you try. Or use lacquer thinner if the paint is stubborn. Neither of these thinners, briefly used, damages the urethane.

2. Go to a Chrysler auto paint distributor, choose a metallic brassy paint that will probably have to be specially mixed and inserted into a spray can. It will cost maybe $35, and you'll also need a spray can of the clear primer for flex bumpers. That combination will work.

3. Use the following Japanese primer/lacquer paint combination. The primer is solid white in color, but does a beautiful job of sealing and protecting the urethane. Then brush the brassy paint on, needing 2 small bottles. Here are specs and sources:

Gunze Sangyo Mr. White Surfacer 1000 (Japanese primer for Mr. Metal paint) and Mr. Metal # 219 (Brass) paint are available from
http://www.Best1Hobby.com

Cost for 2 bottles of paint plus the primer and shipping will be around $20.

After cleaning off all the old paint with thinner, I still think Jediweapon's approach may be a lot more practical.

Zane

PS. Here are links to the Japanese paint and primer -- a better way to go than auto paint. Choose Brass GUMC219 color:
