Re: LOOKING For Anyone intersted in making a kevlar batman dead end cowl with no mouth opening
Why are you referring to hard kevlar Janty? I wouldnt use any 'hard' material for a cowl or body lining....I'm confused. Have you used Kevlar before?
I lined a full panther suit last year in Kevlar, and it was NOT hard as a rock, actucally the Kevlar was like fabric, as was done similarly for Apocalypton's generic chest only he applied the kevlar himself.
....it's not difficult to do. I inbed it into the construction of the garment or cowl. Easy to do...no real trick to it, especially if the cowl is cast in Flesh II.

Actually,
Kevlar comes in a hard form as well. Kevlar has many forms and uses.

Yes, I know that it comes in different ways...and can be coated with resins, epoxiies and so on....:) I dont claim to be an expert either...but I've used it before and it was rather strait forward.
Let me refrase my question....why would anyone use 'hard' kevlar to line a cowl?

Re: LOOKING For Anyone intersted in making a kevlar batman dead end cowl with no mouth opening
That's right, there are soft flexible kevlar's, but I am reffering to Kevlar that is used for Bullet Proof vests, helmets etc.. Have I used kevlar before? Well, being an instructor in martial arts, teaching tactics to members of SWAT, FBI, Police Officers etc...doing field training in bullet proof vests etc.. not to mention affiliations with and being a part of the NRA, I guess qualifies me as knowing enough about kevlar to know that it must be very tough and strong to resist bullets. Once again, I don't want people to think I am making bullet proof armor for people to go fight crime or whatever, but if you feel what Zane added to the back of your generic armor, it is hard as is the cowl I made for him. Like a helmet, but when done in segments, one can still move and most likely survive a bullet if ever shot at.
I'm actually going to run off a full kevlar suit of armor, emblem and cowl and take them out on our next gun training coarse and try our hardest to blow Batman into oblivian.
I'll show pictures of what the suit will look like after we blast it with some shotgun rounds, 357 Magnum rounds, 45 rounds, 9mm and an what an AK can do to it.

Re: LOOKING For Anyone intersted in making a kevlar batman dead end cowl with no mouth opening
We're talking about apples and oranges.....but it doesnt matter.
Kevlar does not need to be coated to be bullet proof. Actually the resin or epoxy will crack on impact and the kevlar itself holds back the projectile. Clothing made from Kevlar is redily available...and although a bullet would really hurt like hell...it wont punkture the kevlar.
I've lined a panther suit that same way and I didnt know that Zane epoxy coated the generic chest I made for him...I wouldnt have done that but to each his own.....
I dont want to hyjack this thread. This is about lining a custom cowl. I dont even know how we wound up on this subject.
I sculpt, I've worked with kevlar within my costumes, and I'd be happy to do this if neccessary on a custom cowl.
Janty be carefull if you line a suit...bullets hurt anyhow:guitar

Re: LOOKING For Anyone intersted in making a kevlar batman dead end cowl with no mouth opening
Actually, we got on the subject because of the sock comment you made. Some of the people who were interested contact me and asked me if that was how I did it and I wanted to clarify that it wasn't.
To clarify another thing, although it is true that you can make very flexible bullet proof armor without using epoxy or resin, the reason why it is better to do it hard is it won't knock you completely out or seriously injure you, allowing you to get up and continue the fight. Flexible kevlar's may not kill you, but they can shatter ribs, bones, skulls etc...which is why the military and law enforcement use hard kevlar bullet proof vests, helmets, leg, knee and shin armor, so if they are shot, they can get up eventually and continue (the guys who ran around LA on a shooting spree in full body armor for example). Even though they may be very hurt, it won't permenantely take them down.
Joker punching Batman in the ab area, almost breaking his hand, in the first Batman movie is what I'm talking about.
Oh and believe me, I know how badly it hurts being shot with a bullet proof vest on. From experience. :suprise

Re: LOOKING For Anyone intersted in making a kevlar batman dead end cowl with no mouth opening
I agree with all the above but I doubt that anyone will need this stuff because they plan to get shot.....it's probably just something extra to add to their collections of suits and stuff.
If someone wants this stuff so that they can actually stop bulletts while wearing it...then sorry, I'm not making anything.

I use, well I should say , I'm supposed to wear kevlar burn sleeves at work. We have 2 kinds one is plastic coated looks and feels like nylon book straps. the other is just cloth like big fat wool socks that itches like crazy. we did have kevlar gloves like the ones you see on Dupont's website but they cost the company too much money to keep in stock.

I have a few pairs I use insted of pot holders.

I've got alot of idea's on how to do it. Kinda a combination of the dead end cowl and a batman beyond cowl.
Let me just drive this Batmobile back down the side of this building and back onto the main road. :whack

Ummm.....are you guys planning on being shot in the head??
How do you know it REALLY works?? I would be willing to bet that you've never actually tested it. :laugh
Sorry guys....just trying to have some fun here but honestly, I just don't see the point unless you're nutty enough to try stepping in front of a bullet....I mean I love Batman just as much as everyone else here but not THAT much. :doh
