Cleaning & Storing Flesh Cowls

I know there was a thread around here about maintaining foam latex and "flesh"

I want to clean some of the powder and armorall residue off of the cowl and could use some feedback on the best way to do that and how it should be stored. Thanks.

wash it with mild soap & water. you can remove the 'residue' by just rubbing it off with your hands while washing.
wipe it dry afterwards and apply ArmorAll.

it's highly recommended to store cowls in a display stand to avoid deformation.

Thanks.... regarding the stand, wouldn't a free hanging stand like that eventually make the cowl sag?

that's a good point. but i figured
you will be wearing the cowl once i awhile and not have it stay on the stand forever.
i've had my flesh cowl on it for 3 months and it never got deformed.

another way is to make your own display stand with shoulder support.
here's a link :
HALF DOME STYRO

you can get a cheap paper towel holder at walmart and mount it on top. it works.

I jsut love Brin's idea for those. Best thing is, they're cheap and useful in a multi-purpose function :wink

I actually go cheaper than Brin.

I fill up a 2L bottle of coke with water for weight. I then stuff the cowl with newspaper and plastic bags. Since the tip of the coke bottle is pretty small, it may take a couple seconds to balance it.

That is cheaper, but after awhile the bottles begin to collapse, and I hate that. :hey
The plungers cost about 2.00, the foam balls about the same.
You can cut the balls in half and use them for 2 different stands, or splurge a little, and use one ball for each stand. You can also pour plaster in the plunger end to make it a bit more stable.
If you want to dress it up a bit, get some velvet, or satin material and drape over the stand before you put your cowl on it.

Really? I've been storing a latex on a 2L for the past two years and it looks/feels just as strong as when I first placed the cowl on there. I have an 89 flesh that's heavy as a tank, so we'll see how long it lasts(I've only had it for a couple months now).
