Best Way to Clean a Dusty Cowl & Basic Maintenance
Hi i have a dusty returns cowl and was wondering what would be the best way to clean it up for display purposes? Do I just use some soapy water or something? Or would using those armor all protectant wipes work better? What's the best way to go about it because the last thing i want to do is ruin the cowl. Also, what should I use to maintain the cowls look? Do i condition it with armor all? Do the armor all wipes work for this purpose? Please let me know.

Re: Best way to clean a dusty cowl and basic cowl maintainance?
Good question, I'm starting to notice that parts of my suit don't seem to be as dark as they used to be...

perhaps some of the suit makers could shed some light on the issue and help out us collectors

What material is your cowl made of?

hmm im not sure.. i believe latex ore urethane? I bought it off ebay a couple years ago but im like 75% sure it's latex. here's a picture of it. the horns were filled in and it keeps shape pretty well. let me know please if there's a difference when handling urethane vs latex. Im not sure how to tell the difference.

Re: Best way to clean a dusty cowl and basic cowl maintainance?
Once you plastidip it you simply wash it down with a garden hose and ajax dish soap after every use. Let hang in front of a fan and after dry, rearmorall it.
If it was black plastidip before it will always be black plastidip and look brand new. The problems come from mixing and matching and doing funky stuff and getting items from other people who have done funky stuff that you are not even sure what it was they did or how to undo it. But the basic approach is the same for the common every day costume wearer as stated above.

Re: Best way to clean a dusty cowl and basic cowl maintainance?
thanks artsee for your reply. Ive never worn the cowl and am going to use it as a display piece only. I'll have to go out and buy some of those armorall wipes to condition it. Would you recommend the armorall wipes or would a spray and cloth be better?

Re: Best way to clean a dusty cowl and basic cowl maintainance?
Good point batman182.
I looked at the armorall site and these look like the ones that would most pertain to conditioning cowls :
Armor All® Original
Protectant
Armor All® Ultra Shine Protectant
NEW! Armor All® Low Shine Protectant
Armor All® Ultimate Clean
Armor All® Protectant Wipes
Which one would you pros recommend?

None...You shouldn't really use ArmorAll if you can possibly avoid it. For full latex capes I would say yes,but not the armor or cowl.
Remember, this stuff is just rubber,so you can simply hose it down and use mild soap to clean it.
