Begins Cowl Sculpt - WIP Pics (Pgs. 9-11, 13-14, 16-18)
If you remember, I posted some pics recently of a design for my custom cowl sculpt that would include aspects of the DE cowl, the Begins cowl, and a bit of the Hush cowl as well.
Well, thanks to Grendel Bat for his help, I was able to whip up a quick and easy life cast and I started sculpting the other day.

Not bad at all. Looks like a Bat creature with that texture.

Re: My First Custom Cowl Sculpt w/ PICS
Jon,
That is a great looking cowl it looks very animal like in those pic's.
Just wondering what method did you use to make your life cast? As i am planning on making my own sometime next week.
Thanks
Joe

You're on the right track with this cowl Jon. The combined elements you've started with are really going to give it a great look when finished up. Keeep us posted on your progress bro :up

Re: My First Custom Cowl Sculpt w/ PICS
Thanks everybody! I will update you as often as I can.
Here's the method I used to create my life cast...
The process involves covering your head, neck, and as much of the shoulders as you want w/ tinfoil, and duct taping over it.
Now do it in sections, meaning don't cover your whole head w/ foil, then duct tape it. Do it a little at a time, and connect the pieces as you go. You really need someone to help you. Use a lot of duct tape.
For the facial area, cut the duct tape into small short strips and crosshatch like you would plaster bandages. When that's done, and everything is duct taped, cut it off your head. Preferably one long cut up the back or front, just enough to get it off and tape it back together when it is off.
Then you have to pack it really full with newspaper, like I did. Or you can use expanding foam and spray it in layers, which will make it really strong, but I discovered that the plaster bandages you will use later on make it strong enough.
After it is completely filled w/ the newspaper or foam, start applying the plaster bandages. Do them in several crosshatched layers. Don't skimp on them either, and be especially meticulous on the facial area using small strips to ensure that you don't loose too much of the defining shapes of the face.
Let it all dry and paint the whole thing with a layer of Krylon regular enamel paint to seal it, let it dry again and you're ready to sculpt on it.
That's it, props to GrendelBat!

Re: My First Custom Cowl Sculpt w/ PICS
I always have a hard time getting the two sides symmetrical, any suggestions. Especially the ears, they're always off. :huh
