Cowl Venting Idea

Cross-posted to BTM.

This may not be as goofy as it seems at first glance, and might go some way in making wearing a cowl a bit more comfortable and less hot.

One could cut out the top of the cowl and insert some kind of mesh/screening (painted black).

To prevent hair from sticking up through the mesh (not a problem for me, alas), wear a black skullcap.

At least the heat would have a way to escape and I do think this would keep the noggin cooler.

I'm going to try this with my "comemmorative" cowl--it's crap anyway so if I cut it up, who cares?

Here's a thought I had.

What about ice wedged up in the ears?

No, seriously.

Pauly: Well, if you really are serious, I don't know that'd do much good, and eventually you'd have water dripping down your face and head and out the bottom of the cowl. Besides, the little amount of ice you could stuff into the ears isn't going to provide much cooling anyway.

I know my idea's rather odd, and probably no one wants to cut a big hole in the top of his cowl (especially if it's an expensive, custom-made one). But I think anyone who's worn a cowl for any length of time knows that it's pretty much a miserable proposition. I'm on meds. that can cause excessive sweating so maybe my case is more extreme than otherwise, but I figure anything that'll allow some evaporation and release of heat is worth a try.

I'd be interested in any ideas anyone else might have, too.

Try it out and see how you like it.
Apocolypton has some very nice venting solutions.
