Attaching an Emblem to a Urethane Cowl

How does everyone attach those emblems and cowls??
I have Dyr1's flesh cowl and chest piece and was wonder what would be a good way of attaching it to the cowl and securing the cowl to the chest? Also maybe cover on how to attach the point of the cowl to the capes?? My cowl lays very well but others may need this info.
Thanks!

David told me using velcro is the best way for attaching emblem to his flesh cowl and also using velcro to securing the cowl to the chest. :wink

Re: emblem/cowl attachment

Because I make this stuff, I permenantely attach my emblems to my torso's and I permenantely attach my capes to my cowls. But I can make myself hundreds and people like to mix and match, so that might not be best for most people.

For Davids or any urethane or flesh pieces, use flexible super glue, which can be found at any hobby store. You don't want to just attach industrial strength velcro to a urethane piece with regular super glue, because it can become very hard and start cracking. Flexible super for rubber is your best bet, because it will flex instead of crack.

Cylock R is what Bob D reccomended to me and what was used to glue down the six flags costumes, which were made of urethane.

Jants,

Once the emblem is attached to the torso, and the cape to the cowl how do you....

1. easily pull the cowl with attached cape over head? Is it easy enough?

2. keep the cowl from overlapping the emblem when turning your head?

I'm just looking for future instructions here as I have not yet put all my costume pieces together....

Also... what is the best way to attach the resin emblem to a latex torso and what is the best way to attach a latex cowl to a 'leather like' cape?

cheers :cheers

Velcro & ProBond Urethane Glue.
1. put the smooth velcro pieces on the chest cavity.
2. the rough ones go to the back of the cowl
3. you can permanently glue the emblem on top of the cowl cavity but i used velcros on it, too in case i want to change emblems.

- btw, but the velcro to their proper shapes
before you start gluing them.

Re: emblem/cowl attachment

For myself gluing the cape to the cowl is the only way to go with the symbol mounted to the chest. There are many types of glue that will get the job done with equally desirable results.

Getting into the cowl is just a matter of hanging the cape over the cowl upside down and finding a good technique to get yourself in. Try not to pull on the cape and get yourself the thinnest, lightest pure latex cape if possible. Some KY never hurts.

I have a hook and latch system that holds my cowl to the chest but industrial velcro can work fine. Especially with the returns cowl it seems very necessary to attach the cape to the cowl to pull down the scallops.

I also find many people dont like a tight cowl which can be a little tricky to get into. I find that a cowl has to be some what tight to fit like skin and show no gaps when moving. Some shots of Keaton were horrible in the amount of space around the sides of the cowl.

Re: emblem/cowl attachment

Hey Tristan, what I do is only attach my lightweight cape to the points of the cowl, because my latex capes have fabric inserted into the rubber, so it won't stretch. I attach it to the ends and this way it pulls on easily, because my latex cowls are so lightweight and stretchy and slippery with a little bit of water, it's quite simple (you'll see when I send you this cowl you've been waiting for) :wink

I industrial strength velcro down the bottom of my cowl to the area above my emblem, so the cowl ends stays right above my emblem at all times, this also allows me to move my head easily, without the cowl shifting with me. They did the same for the movies along with the flap under the cowl that the emblem screws went through, into the chest.

There are a number of ways to attach an emblem to a chest, I personally bolt my emblem onto my chest, but you can use industrial strength velcro to attach your emblem, thin magnets, mini screws etc...

Latex will glue to leather with flexible super glue, but you might want to use industrial strength velcro to attach your cowl to your cape, so you can remove it if you wanted to.

Will the flexible superglue stick to the flesh cowl best? I want to permanently attach the resin emblem to the Dyr1 flesh cowl. Or will the Bondini hold better?
