Adding an Emblem to a Comic Suit

As some know, I'm doing a comic suit. I was thinking of doing a 3d bat out of vinyl and having it sewn on, but I'm not sure if that would hold up. Does anyone know of a place that could apply one on there with paint, or silkscreening or whatever? I'd love to hear some ideas.

Try one of those airbrush artists that you see in mall's and at tourist spots.

Well, you can probably paint or silkscreen it yourself. If you need to sew a vinyl one on, try a local seamstress. If there aren't any in the phonebook, ask the employees at the craft store. Sometimes they do that kind of thing on the side. Craft store workers might also be able to help you if you're not confident about painting or silkscreening by yourself.

If those suggestions don't work, just post here and ask who can help. I'm sure there are plenty of guys who are experienced with that, so you might be able to mail it to someone who can do it. :)

I am going to silk screen mine when I get around to it. The only problem is they don't like doing small orders. Usually it's a minimum of three/five. This is due to the fact that it's a real hassle to set up and they have to set up a different screen for each color. So it's like $15-25 for the first silk screen when you do some minimum like five. I'm sure if you go in there and tell them you only want one color and are providing the shirt and agree to pay the high price for 1 screening they'll agree. The guy near me was pretty hard headed when I asked but I didn't really persist. But hey Batman can't wear the same shirt every night so maybe 3 isn't that bad of a deal.
As far as silkscreening yourself I've never heard of that. There is iron-on but that's really bad quality in the long run especially with something that will be stretched so much. Also if your using a spandex blend it won't stand up to the heat of the iron.
Sewing on an emblem or screenprinting is the way to go.

Make sure that you stretch the shirt material to size (over your armour) before applying the logo.
I think I'll use velcro so that I can adjust the logo whenever I want.

Here's a place to order silkscreen kits. I'm sure there are better places to order, but this one does have a lot to choose from.

I've done it personally years ago (before I started airbrushing)...and while it's not that difficult, it can be quite messy, time consuming, and it's not exactly cheap. If you can offer someone $30-40 at a T-shirt shop to do a "one-off", then you're better off doing that.

I will tell you guys from experience that glue isn't a great option for your emblem for a comic style suit. The glue stretches at a different rate than your materials for the suit and emblem do, and can cause pulling, sagging, wrinkling, buckling, etc.

There is a vinyl material that some T-shirt shops use that is a heat-press material. I believe it takes a professional heat press to apply it properly, but what it does is bond the vinyl to your material by melting them together using heat and pressure. This produces a nice effect for designs, and there's no reason why it shouldn't work for an emblem. I'm not sure how much you local shops will charge, if they offer this type of thing, but I've been quoted as low as $15 per application.

Sticky back Foamies.
Cut your design out of the Foamie, stick it onto a stretched piece of material (your bodysuit) and spray with Duplicolor Vinyl and fabric changing spray.
Simple.

Just a thought, but there are enough of us here to order a batch of shirts with the logo printed or screened on.
I'd buy two or three

Anyone got a trade/wholesale connection?

I think the problem would be getting the shirts. My comic suit was custom-made out of some kind of under-armorish material. If everyone were to donate their shirts then it could probably be done. I'm going to check with a screen-printing place this coming week I think.
