Displaying a Cowl
Not sure if there is a post about this buried somewhere in the archives but couldn't find anything using the search or delving into the cowl archives...
What way do most people display a cowl (if not using a head cast)? What is the best way to show off JUST the cowl as much as possible (so not seeing like a stick through the face gap supporting it)
Thanks for any help
Ken
PS - My preference is for any cheap ideas. What can I say, I'm a student :ohwell

Re: Displaying a Cowl
Wig stores have styrofoam heads. Put them on a plunger for quick support or dowel in a few inches of plaster at the bottom of a five gallon bucket then remove when set.
Both are not attractive but cheap and work well and can of course be painted.

Re: Displaying a Cowl
You could also get a piece of PVC pipe and a flange stick one end into the wig form and the other screwed to a piece of wood. That will definately work.

Re: Displaying a Cowl
Paper towel holders. They come in chrome or you can get wooden ones and paint them black, cheap and effective.

Re: Displaying a Cowl
I built mine out of wood. I cut out about a 6-8" circle out of 1' plywood and used a dowel about a foot to 14 inches and used a styrofoam craftball (availalable in a craftstore-mine was from wallmart) and painted it all black. very cheap to do.Sanding the wood, affixing the dowel and painting was easy.waiting for it to dry so I could display my cowl was the hard part! You can cover the ball with black fabric(I stretched a sock over mine)

Re: Displaying a Cowl
I do the brushed chrome & black wood paper towel holders (from Wal Mart for about $4.97) with a 6" styrofoam ball that you can find at craft stores. I stretch an old sock or black stocking over the ball, cut a recess in the bottom of the ball for the top knob of the paper towel holder to sit down inside & glue it in place with gorilla glue. I leave about 1/4" of the sock hanging loose, but I tuck it inside the hole in the ball before I glue the knob in place. Looks real professional & finishes it off nicely. I'll post some pics later if anyone's interested...
I also do one that has "shoulders" using the same paper towel holders, styrofoam balls & cones, & socks for my Returns cowls. You could always wrap the black post with some black material or stuff the face of the cowl with something if you don't want to see the post.
