i remember when i was real young (before my teens) my great aunt had a house with a 1/2 story on it. the way to get up to it was behind the bookcase. no mechanical drive you just pulled it open. you could see the hinges on it. i suded to pretend it was the batcave of course

I considered this when I bought my new place. I have two large closets in a loft and wanted to wall one up with a bookcase in front that would open up when I hit my Shakespeare bust switch.

The contractor thought I was nuts, but maybe someday I'll get to it.

One thing you have to consider is how it will effect the value of your house. It has to be done cleanly or it will end up depreciating the value of your home when you sell it. This is one of the reasons I don't want to attempt something right now. I don't have the funds to do it right. :ohwell
