Re: Question about uncured urethane

My digital scale looks like a disaster area also, but 3 years and still going strong. :)

On another note, there are also some urethane's that just won't cure in some silicone molds. Condensation silicone molds, will not allow me to use any of the urethane's I use now. For the molds I own that are condensation silicone molds, I have to use products from smooth-on.

I think it's that dragon skin stuf you are using, I've heard how weird that stuff is when it comes to curing correctly and general use. I'd switch up your silicones.

As far as your un-ven mold, get your master copy of your boot spat and lay it on a level surface. Then use some soft clay to fill in whereever you see silicone possible leaking under the piece you are molding. Build your box around it and pour. Very simple and this will ensure that your piece will be even. Then make your jacket for the silicone, then all you have to do is simply pourin your rubber and let it cure. This is how I do a lot of my molds and I never spill a drop anywhere as a result.

Re: Question about uncured urethane

It's a low-shrinkage, softer cured silicone that is really good for pieces with deep undercuts.

Good stuff, but you can't just use any urethane's in it, because they will either not cure at all..or will cure in some areas and not others.

Silicone molds are great for all sizes. All of my molds at one time were silicone.

Re: Question about uncured urethane

that's great to hear, because once I'm done with my chest armor sculpt, I was going to use silicone molds for the casting...also( while I have your attantion), what urelthane would you recomend that I use for chest armor...I was kind of looking to get a nice "softer" and flexible urethane..like the Returns mask with the velcro in the back

Re: Question about uncured urethane

Condensation silicones are tin based silicones and will come in many shore A hardness from soft for undercuts up to 60.

Addition cure is a platinum based silicone that will not inhibit but is a bit more expensive.

The alcohol in the tin is one of the main reasons that the urethanes wont cure. For the most part if you look at the spec sheet it will suggest you to bake out the mold as talked about before and for me this has worked every time to let me cast. Though it wont always.
