Getting a Matte Finish with Plasti Dip
What kind of paint can I use to paint a cowl and armor to get the matte finish from begins. And do I need to sand down the cowl and armor first?

Re: painting a cowl and armor question
You would want either black Plasti-Dip in a spray can or tinted latex and spray it on thru a spray gun.
With P-D,you have one choice, but with latex you can color it however you want(not that I've ever done it).
With P-D,you might be able to sand it with fine grit steel wool to soften up the shine. I have never done this, but it would probably work. Or,after applying it,pull back a few feet and mist it. This might soften it up a bit too.
Other than that,I don't know,but I hope that helps.

Yeah the best way to get the semi-gloss or satin finish from plasti is to mist it on. Don't spray it wet and sloppy.

It really depends on what material your cowl and armor are made of.

Re: painting a cowl and armor question
It will give you both.:wink
If you spray a nice wet coat on your pieces, you'll get a glossy look. If you hold the can about 10 to 12" away while spraying, it will give you more of a matte finish.
My favorite way is to spray on a good covering coat, then wipe with mineral spirits (it'll get REALLY glossy) then spray a light coat from several inches away, and WALA!
Matte finish without the fuzzy buildup.
Hope that helps.

ok I'm looking to get the begins finish, so you're saying that one coat of plasti will give it that look?

I doubt you can get the look with one coat.
Like I said:

Brin, I discovered this by total accident. I had sprayed some chest armor with plasti-dip hoping to achieve a glossy look. I was spraying from about 12-15 inches away. I wasn't satisfied. So I read about mineral spirits being used to remove the plasti-dip.
As I started to go to town on the chest piece removing the paint, I discovered a great looking glossy look as I was scrubbing. I stopped. It looked pretty good in some spots. I then read this post today and went back and resprayed the chest piece with plasti-dip and then wiped it with some mineral spirits. It's now completely uniform and looks great!!!
Thanks for the help

Re: painting a cowl and armor question
I painted last week and yea, fuzzy...but I liked the color so I left it. Now I know I can still get what I want without the fuzzy's! Thanks Brin!
