Building Up Low Spots on Latex

Hey guys,

I just started sanding down my cowl and I have low spots that need filling. Should I use the plasti-dip latex in the dipping can (for tools) or should I use an actual latex from a monster shop?

Any advice is greatly apprecaited.

Thanks,
Nick

I'm, by no means, an expert on these types of questions but I would think you'd wanna go with an actual latex...hopefully the pros will jump in soon though and either tell me I'm :cookoo for suggesting that or I'm :up

There are times when building up with plasti is something that works but for me but personally I dont find it to work well in general for what it sounds like you are doing. It will stiffen quite a bit also. Use the latex with a dremel to resurface and than smooth with some mineral spirits. It takes some practice and theres more to it but that is basically it.

I'll tell you what worked for me. I cleaned the area with some lacquer thinner ( use in well ventalated area and use heavy duty rubber gloves if possible) than i used spray Plasti-Dip to build up the low spot. Let dry and again use lacuqer thinner to wipe away the heavy stuff around the area your trying to fill, leaving the filled area untouched. repeat steps untill you have the low area filled. Than lightly wipe the entire area with lacquer thinner to blend to old with the new. If you're careful you should have no problem filling the low spot. Hopwe this helps

It doesn't matter so much what it is made of. The general rule is fill with what you are painting with. I seldom paint anything anymore. I have become somewhat proficient at filling and smoothing latex and so the actual latex on the piece becomes the finish for me.

If using Plastidip paint it once dab a dot of Plastidip on every defect. Allow to dry over night sand down the dabs and then paint one last time.
