How To Paint Latex

I have a spare chest piece I'd like to paint with a blue Nightwing emblem. I'm afraid of it flaking when it flexes. Whats the best kind of paint for this sort of thing?

I believe most of the pros and more experienced costumers use tinted latex but another more readily available and less expensive way to go would be to use Plasti-Dip spray. I just sprayed a chest piece red with it for a Hellboy costume and it flexes quite nicely. It took 5-6 light coats to cover the black latex armor to get solid coverage. It's available at most hardware supply stores and on eBay here:

I'm sure other folks will be along soon to offer other suggestions. Best of luck and can't wait to see pics when you finish.

Shawn is correct. The best is to use tinted latex. The Blue Plasti-Dip is alot lighter than the Blue in the pic you used. You can also use a mixture ir Rubber cement, Blue acrylic paint and naptha (to thin the mixture for spraying).

WOW, Thanks for that formula Ed, I didn't know that. Can that be run thru a large airbrush? I have a few of my old Passche
VL's from my T shirt shootin' days.

You should be able to run it through an airbrush, just make sure you clean it out immediately after you finish. The more napthat you use the thinner it will be (obviously, LOL) and should flow through nicely.

If you use rubber cement, DO NOT BREATHE IN THE FUMES!
That stuff can cause problems to your nervous system.
As with anytthing you spray, make sure you have protection for your lungs.
Practice safe spraying.:wink

That might just explain why I think I'm Batman. :help

Seriously guys, Brin speaks wisely. No matter what you are spraying get a proper respirator for it. 3M has a large selection and if you call them I'm sure they can tell you what is best for what you are doing.

Thanks for the safety tip guys, I agree. I have been spraying for YEARS and have worked a number of years with hazardous solvents and chemicals while I at Exxon Research & Engineering, and proper, snug fitting masks are the key to protecting your lungs, sinuses and YOUR BRAIN.
