But i too would rather not have the shine. Next time i plan on the alex ross version, using black regular spandex, hopefully i can get some that isnt too shiny. I still like it alot.nondisclosed_email@example.com (peterparker0077)Wed, 17 Aug 2005 14:59:48 +0000 Re: My Batsuit Tutorialhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1800877,from=rss#post1800877https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1800877,from=rss#post1800877Great ideas there, and I'm sure it could be improved even further with your next attempt. The real problem for me is the materials, which I know you probably don't have a wide choice of. Too bright and shiny... But then I don't suppose you can get stretch PVC in matte black or a darker desaturated blue. The mask basically uses the same concept as the Adam West and Daredevil movie cowls/masks, which as a concept is pure gold IMO, and I'm continually pissed off that the makers of the Batman movies don't use it. I definitely want to see more stuff like this. I'm too lazy to actually work on my design so unless I actually announce that I've done something, don't expect to see anything for a while.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lujho1)Wed, 17 Aug 2005 14:25:16 +0000 Re: My Batsuit Tutorialhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1800876,from=rss#post1800876https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1800876,from=rss#post1800876Awesome costume, and, tutorial!! zacnondisclosed_email@example.com (youandibotheggeaters)Wed, 17 Aug 2005 12:08:40 +0000 Re: My Batsuit Tutorialhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1800875,from=rss#post1800875https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1800875,from=rss#post1800875Dude, that looks great, way to go!and thanks for the great tips! nondisclosed_email@example.com (shadowsensei)Wed, 17 Aug 2005 11:59:26 +0000 Making a Spandex/PVC Comic Style Batsuit - Tutorialhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1800874,from=rss#post1800874https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1800874,from=rss#post1800874Ok, well, my suit was much more simple than you may think... Base suit, go to www.spandexoutfitters.com (my friend Valerie's business). I ordered a plain grey long sleeve shirt and pants. I did this because: 1. I wanted to be able to use the restroom without a hassle. 2. Her full body suits have a seam up the middle that I didn't want. I also ordered in PVC blue, a standard hood with a 3 inch neck cape, elbow length goves, sock boots, briefs, and cape. The cape is by far the most expensive item. That's the base suit. Now, what I did... Boots: Buy a 12 dollar pair of slip on leather shoes from Walmart. Put the sock boot on and cut off the sole of it. Peel up the rest of the sock boot and put the shoe on your foot. Pour glue (goop or contact cement, or anything else you want to use) all over the top and sides of the shoe, pull the sock boot down over the boot. and press it on and smooth it out as the glue dries. That's it. Belt: 3 inch leather strap from the leather factory, harness plate buckle (I dont know the real name for the buckle). I sculpted a belt buckle to glue to the top of the harness plate buckle. I found tubes of candy and tin can of candy to use a pouches. Using Krylon Crafters Gold paint, paint everything. Empty candy first though. Attach metal belt clips from leather factory on the belt pouches, clip them on, and you're done. Symbol: Print the coolest Batman symbol you can find for your chest emblem, play with the scale of the print to get it to the size you want. Cut out the oval from scrap leather piece, and cut out the bat from black PVC spandex. Paint oval with the same Krylon Crafters Gold paint, and glue bat on. You're done. Gloves: I am making a mold of some fins I made, and I will cut slits the in gloves to poke the fins through. Then I will paint to get the fins to match the fabric. Hood: Here is the long one... Start with the base full hood from Valerie, place it on your life mask. You'll need a life mask, or something close to your head size, or a friend who doesn't mind sitting still for awhile. With the hood on the life mask, cut tiny holes for the eyes and mouth opening. Pull hood off, sculpt a mask with the shape you want on your life mask. Dont make it too thick. This is where I see most people make a mistake, they make the mask way too thick. Make sure it is thick enough to blend into your face. Make a mold of the mask and then use either plastic or rubber to make your mask. I used Task 2 plastic because it has a nice cure time and it very strong and flexible. (To get around this if you can not make molds, use one of xtremedesignfx.com face masks. :) ) You can also make some ears on your life mask with clay. Mold and make them as well.(To get around this if you can not make molds, you can make them out of leather, flexi foam, or even cardboard. Shoot, you could carve them out of balsa wood if you wanted to. :) ) Ok, gluing the mask into the hood is the hardest part in my opinion. Place the mask onto the life mask, and use tape to keep in place if you have too. Pull the hood over the lifemask. Cut a slit across the mouth area the width of the mouth opening that you want. Pull the fabric back so the face mask is exposed. Put 3 dabs of glue at the highest points of the mask, for me it was the top corners of the eyebrows and the tip of the nose. Let dry, pull the hood with the glued face mask off the lifemask. Turn it inside out. Draw a line around the face mask on the fabric so you know where to spread the glue. Pull the face mask of the hood and clean up the glue you used to hold it down. Cover the face mask and part of the hood that you drew a line around with Contact Cement. Place the face mask back on the life mask. Pull the hood back over the life mask being careful not to let the contact cement from each part touch. Pull the fabric over the face mask to align the 3 parts you glued before. Press them down, and then stretch the fabric down and spread it out over the face mask and smooth it out. Be careful here, once the fabric contacts the mask, it will stick.   For the mouth opening spread contact cement on the insides of the hood around the edge of mouth opeing that you cut out, fold the fabric over and let it adhere to itself to give you a strong opening. For the ears, cover in the same spandex as the hood using contact cement, and place them on your life mask without the hood on it. Cut slits in the hood where you want the ears to poke through. Put contact cement on the ears and inside the hood and slide the hood over. You should be done! :) I know it's long, but it was really wasn't too hard. This was my first one, I really want to do the Alex Ross version now. :) I've learned alot. nondisclosed_email@example.com (peterparker0077)Wed, 17 Aug 2005 11:52:08 +0000
