89 Style Vs. Returns Style
I was just wondering, that does anyone know why Burton wanted quite different styled suit in Returns than in the first movie. Why did returns suit looked more practical, basic armor and mass produced than the first's only suit?
Sorry, i might be little too tired...

Re: Stupid Armor question...
I recall reading that Burton made the first suit to be more comic book and superheroic, hence the rubber six pack and exaggerated musculature.
When he got the green light to go with a second Batman flick he wanted the costume to look more practical. He went with a suit that looked like armor instead of decorated armor that looked like muscles.

Also, many of the people involved with pulling the strings at WB saw the 89 suit as having all sorts of flaws.
-Seams on the cowl
-Seams on the suit
-texture
-unevenly sculpted
And so on...
Returns was all smooth, no seams or texture. it was done more as a "I told you we could do it" rather than a continuation of the Batsuits....
As a result Burton did make a few comments stating he want to make it more armor like for the Returns film but...I think what really caused the change was the studio's wanting to prove they could out do themselves and.....MERCHANDISING!
Dont forget...merchandising is the reason we have the sonar suit and ice suis......
...gotta love it.

Re: Stupid Armor question...
From what I've read, the 89 suit was pretty similar to the returns suit in early production sketches but the studio wanted something more traditional.

Re: Stupid Armor question...
actually, if you guys remember some of the concept drawings from 89, it had the utilitarian armor look.

Re: Stupid Armor question...
Hmm, where can we find the early sketches of the returns suit?
