Screen Accuracy Vs. Customs

Here's the dilemma.

I'm about ready to sink $1000+ into this hobby.

Personally, I like the 89 suit. But I like the Returns cowl. And the Returns boot. But I like the Panther gloves.

How many brothers are going for custom/mish-mash costumes versus screen accuracy? Would I be the only one?

Pics of these bizarre collaborations would be welcome, too. :)

Oh hell no, you are most definitely not the only one. I have come up with tons of designs for my own batsuit, just have yet to put together my custom one. Wait till you see what others post. There have been some super impressive custom suits!

Lots of Brothers do it that way. I am sure a couple will respond soon.

Personally, I think the chest armor from XtremeFX has a look that very nicely blends the anatomic look of the '89 film, with the more streamlined, architectural stylings of the Returns chest.

It looks awesome with a Returns cowl and really opens up the whole suit to a "hybrid" approach.

I love the '89 look but I'm more for the hybrid look than I am for screen accuracy.

I have the Returns cowl, belt, and emblem with the '89 armor and gloves. The boots are generic custom made Black Superhero boots.

I also have a Hybrid Year One design that I will use the '89 gloves for and a Hush style cowl with my own design belt and chest emblem.

I think screen accuracy is cool too but I love so many different parts of the movie and comic suits that I can't have just one all inclusive suit.

you never get a suit thats 100 percent accurate cause we all know there were several suits for each movie, especially 89

set out to build the suit exactly the way you want it, if that turns out screen accurate more power to you, if it turns out unique or as a hybrid, even better

IMHO

Re: Screen Accuracy vs. Customs

Personally, I'm going for SEVERAL hybrid looks. My goal is to go for what I've heard Artsee1 talking about - pieces that can easily be mixed & matched. I am putting together a comic style with a spandex suit & several of the movie pieces, and I'm putting together a hybrid out of my favorite pieces from the movies. I like the Panther suit (no nipples emoticon) the best, but I don't care for the gloves. My favorite cowl is the Returns cowl, so I'll be working that in somehow. I'm trying to come up with a way of creating a generic black boot (close to the Panther) that I can either armor or not.

So, you see, this hobby is about being Batman the way you've always thought he should be. If that is screen accurate, as has already been said, then go for it. If you are like me, and like several different looks from the comics, cartoons & movies, then mix & match. Just have fun with it & don't get caught up in screen accurate unless that is your goal.

I'm going for screen accuracy myself, but I've seen plenty of hybrids pictured here that would make any bat proud. Most important, come up with the suit that pleases you.

Thanks for all the imput.

Coming from a Boba Fett costuming background, screen accuracy was a MUST, unless you strayed so far off the beaten path, you were a noticeable 'custom Mandalorian'. Then it seemed more tolerable.

I sold this costume before moving back to Texas:

I just didn't want anyone coming up to me a con, going "You're wearing the wrong boot armor, moron." I guess that's why I needed a little encouragement before I begin.

Great pics!

There are a couple of shots where something appears to be dripping down the front of the costume...is that sweat?? Drool? ...Beer?
