Movie Costume Definitions
I've seen some of the shortnames given to the different costume styles, but want to make sure I've got them all down.
"89" - Michael Keaton's 1989 costume.
"Returns" - MK's from 'Batman Returns'.
And then it gets a little confusing for me...
Kilmer wore two different styles, the second was a 'Sonar suit' after the cave was destroyed, yes? Are there names for these two suits?
And is the 'Panther' referring to the Clooney style only? I haven't seen that movie in a while...did he have more than one design?
Help us newbies out!

Re: Different Batman costume style definitions?
Hey Eric...is that you???
Cool!!!
The Panther refers to the main suit that Val Kilmer wore in Forever...
With some very small differences...and a different cowl...the same suit was used in B&R...known as the Clooney Panther.
This is the Sonar..as you correctly pointed out used in the end of Forever
And this is the 89...
Nice to see you part of the cave!!! Hope this helps somewhat.

Re: Different Batman costume style definitions?
You're right on the first two, and Sonar. When Shumacher (SP?) got to the helm he did the whole two suits per movie deal.
The Sonar is the one that was left after the cave was destroyed. The more silver one. It was used when Batman and Robin go two the hideout of the Riddler and Two Face.
The Panther suit was Kilmer's first suit, (they had many in the batcave), and was worn up until the cave get's blown up. Had the yellow in the chest emblem. This is probably on of the biggest giveaways. I believe the last time it was worn was when Two-Face dumped all the sand on Batman and Robin came to the rescue (in his tights).
The one Clooney wears throughout most of Batman and Robin is the "Clooney" style. It had no yellow in the "Bat emblem". I dont' think there is a special name, or it escapes me now. And the glove "fins" were changed to "Razor" style for the Clooney. And taken of completely on the ICE suit. The blue and silver ones at the end of the B&R movie is called the "Ice" suit. Most people hate this suit. lol.
And then there is the OnStar suit which was used in the OnStar Batman commercials. It is a Clooney modified suit. The only difference (that I can think of now) is that the chest emblem is yellow in the middle.
Then there is the Dead End Batman suit, Year 1 suit, and many other customs. Hope this helps.
[EDIT] Dave beat me to it, while I was typing... :grumble LOL!!! [/EDIT]

Re: Different Batman costume style definitions?
we really need to put up something in the main archives to help those with this question... as it comes up all the time yet none of us have ever done anything about it even though we talked about it
if I can find some free time I think I'll finely do something about this to help out anyone in doubt about which is which

Don't worry about it. This thread will make its way to the archives. It's exactly what we needed.

Re: Different Batman costume style definitions?
Thanks for the info, guys, it's exactly what I needed.
So why is it called 'Panther'? A little too cat-like, I think...
I'm currently researching props for a 89/Returns hybrid, and really appreciate the info!
