Re: Duct Tape Batman(new project)
Well I'll probably write a complete tutorial once the suit's finished. I apologize about the beyond pictures but I want to do one thing before I post any pictures. As for the cape, it'll be done in pleather. The cowl itself won't be duct tape when I'm done with it. I simply made a form out of it and liked what I got. I just made another today and that's going to be my final product. Within a week or so, I'll show you the finished cowl; all $25 of it.

Re: Duct Tape Batman(new project)
Yep, if it was the finished product, he would have used BLACK Duct Tape! great low-cost prototyping.

Re: Duct Tape Batman(new project)
You are a friggin' genius. I do not know where you are going with this but you are a friggin' genius. I should have thought of this long long ago.
One small suggestion. Use black gaffers tape instead and it will be black as it should be, with no painting required. If you build the surface up in places with creativity as needed and then give it a final clean coat of new carefully placed tape I believe you could simulate an actual well designed impressive charater. You are a friggin genius. Did I say that already?

Re: Duct Tape Batman(new project)
Thank you all for the comments. Paul, the exact same thing comes to mind everytime I've seen your work so to hear you say it about mine is an honor. I can't wait for phase 2 to be dry so I can post more pictures. I'll give you all a hint. The second step is a brand new layer. It can be sanded, painted and sculpted and dries by air. I'm going to start taping up my torso tonight so I can show you how to build the body armor.

Re: Duct Tape Batman(new project)
This is probably one of the funniest, yet most ingenious things I've seen in a long time. I'm laughing over here mostly because of the sheer simplicity of this thing, and because it's looking awesome! Who would've thought that Batman could have actually used duct tape!
My 4 year old son has been wanting a cowl for a while now, but, aside from the cheesy cloth ones that come with the costumes, they're not easy to find in that size. This is how I'm going to make him his own cowl! This is great because if he outgrows it, I haven't spent much time and money on it. If he tears it up, who cares? He'll be so excited!
As a former working musician, I have come to understand the value of duct tape (other musicians know what I mean). I knew you could do just about anything with it, but I never thought of a bat suit.
This is just too cool! I can't wait to see how this turns out.

Alright, onto stage two: Making the cowl a keeper. I chose to use Celluclay. You can buy it at any craft store in the clay section. This stuff will be the basis for the rest of the body armor as well. You'll notice that it's really, really rough right now but sands down easily. What you want to do is sand it as smooth as you can get it, fill the imperfections with sheetrock and then give it a coat of epoxy(followed by the paint of your choice). You'll get a glass smooth, hard cowl for less than $30. I'll post pix of the rest of the suit when it's finished and explain the cape/hood part in greater detail.
