Re: Batman Leather Costume back on the workbench....YAY!

Can't wait for some pics David!

Incorporating a plastic undershell like Daredevil into your Bat Cowl will definately work, that prototype Cowl is very nice! Is that your's or a prototype for the movie?

Looking forward to seeing what you can do with it!

ps

Nobody makes custom comic book type gloves in leather, ever thought of making some of these?
Seeing as your talent stretches to even leather work.
Must be pretty simple compared to that Anakin glove.
I'd defiantely buy some if you did. :wink

Hee hee. "Get her." That was your whole plan. I like it; it was scientific.

Re: Batman Leather Costume back on the workbench....YAY!

That DD cowl is a studio prototype cowl tested by the film crew. I didnt make it. The head shell is identical to the movie used one but this prototype here has different stitching on it and an extended neck..... the concept of this cowl screams Batman!!!

I've scanned some of the conceptual designs of the jacket into my home computer, but I need to email them to me so that I can post them from this computer. Seeing as we have a wireless connection that has to travel 2 floors the signal is sometimes very low for the upstairs system so as soon as the connection is active again...I'll proceed to post the designs. I've been given the OK to post them for all to see so this should be interesting.

As for who does the stitching here...not me. :) I design, make patterns and oversee the production of prototypes. I spent nearly 8 years in Italy working in the clothing industry and continue to this day to apply what I can to my small world of costuming.

I look forward to hearing the comments on the drawings. They're pretty complex...and heavily influenced by the Begins suit with a few elements of Panther and X2 suits. In the event that I eliminate the bat on the chest...this can be made in any color, any combination of colors...and literally made into any hero....Expect to see a nightwing soon after the Batjacket.
On a side note I'm also trying to get Captain America with individually raised scales also back on the work bench....all leather. This was a comissioned project that unfortunately fell through. Still, too much work has been put into it to just let it die so unlike the Green Goblin movie suit that I've just lost interest in, the Captain America I'd really love to see happen...we'll see.

I think that with the right padding and stitching you can make a leather jacket look like the Batman armor with the muscles and all. Take a look at the DD jacket. Notice the psuedo muscle definition in the upper rib area. This could be done with the whole jacket. I see no reason that it couldn't. Why someone hasn't done this in the past is beyond me.

I am looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

I couldnt agree more.
Granted, this version is not only a combination of the X2 and DD but there's definately a Green Goblin influence as well as a Batman Beyond type feel to it.

Again...these are a few of the earlier designs. I've done over 15 differnt sketches for this.

A few key details..

-The forearm part of the glove is part of the jacket sleeve and padded up. I'll be able to mount the fins to this so that they're permanently part of the jacket thus only needing leather gloves to use.

-The neck area is finished like some of the earlier Gucci jackets...no collar. This will make it real easy to wear a leather cowl with this set up as well as be clean enough to wear without anything...nightwing...other hero's as well.

-The padded ribs that are exposed are mounted onto the part of the jacket that actually is separate from the base and abb's. It will move independantly from the rest of the jacket. Almost like a real ribcage moves in our body.

-The Shoulders, Bicepts, Tricepts, Pecs, Ribs and Abb's are padded and raised up just like the rubber suits we know and love. Some more than others.

-The pic with the shaded areas indicates the various types of leather...suede, smooth, with grain and so on.

-The arms are 2 separate entities. Shoulder to bicepts actually end as a short sleeved shirt and the rest of the sleeve is attached on the inside and has total free movement from the bicept. Kinda' cool.

Again...this is just to show the direction of what I've been asked to do. It's very complex...stretch leather all over the sides and back. Love to hear some feeback on this. :)

This one shows where the different types of leather are to be expected..
-Darkest color is Black shiny Suede.
-Second Darkets areas are solid black leather with Grain.
-The areas that are not shaded are to be smooth black leather.
-The ribbed areas are stretch leather. I've basically used the same leathers that the X2 suit required...but there will be a few twists...:)

Unshaded to show the details properly....

Try to picture it all Black leather.....
The chest bat can easily be cut as the Beyond Bat and done in red leather also.

I will be working on this prototype shortly once I'm given the go ahead or made any new changes that might be necessary.

Critique away. :) Cowl designs will follow...

Nice concept David! :up
If I might make a suggestion as far as the zipper(s):
Consider this...
Make it a pull-over type jacket with three zippers.
Instead of a zipper in the front, have two zippers up the sides to the armpit that will be pulled down to close. Piping will hide them and be incorporated into the design.
Add a third zipper either in the front or the back of the neck,a small 6 inch zipper to make the neck opening wider when putting on. This way the neck opening can be somewhat snug when wearing, but easy to put on and take off when unzipped. The cape/cowl will hide this zipper.

The idea being a seamless, yet tight fitting jacket with no visible means of getting on and off.
I could draw a sketch if this doesn't make sense. Just an idea.

Wow that looks cool!!!
I've seen it in several posts already and can honestly say we need to see more of this sort of thing!!!!

Well done...OH and I'm looking forward to the fan film!

I'll most definately make a Beyond style logo as well..but will use a different kind of leather for the suit to simulate some kind of freakish futuristic material...:)
