I guess you'd have to put them side by side to know for sure. But here's two mistakes I found. Take note of the vertical ribs. The real rang has 6 ribs. On one I already have and the one I got from the Hound, which I believe are SDStudios rangs, there are 8 ribs.(I have a third that's not accurate at all,but still pretty cool.)  I fixed that, but what I missed is hard to describe, but I'll try: Where the ribs go,the rang isn't flat. If you look close you'll notice they sit in a slightly recessed area. Like a squared section is cut out and slightly lower than the rest, then the ribs go in. By missing this,I think the ribs are a little too high.  This almost gives the appearence of 8 ribs at first glance, but the 2 side ones aren't really ribs, but a continuation of the rangs actual height.  I think that made sense. If not I can try to point these out in photoshop or something. Upon first glance it looks really close, but there are a couple of things. I got the one in the pic from the Bathound. There's a few things wrong with it(detail wise),but I on my sculpt I fixed one thing and noticed something else after I finished, but its such a small detail its hardly noticable unless you really look close. :p John :flapbat nondisclosed_email@example.com (Blackwood Bat)Sat, 12 Feb 2005 10:00:45 +0000 Re: Real Bataranghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1804003,from=rss#post1804003https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1804003,from=rss#post1804003I have a very old Comic scene poster edition mag and it had the props of Batman and an interview with John Evans the creator and he said the material that made that 89 Batarang fold out was called Bungee. I suppose it is the same material thay use for the jump material of the same name. :wink nondisclosed_email@example.com (monkeybat)Sat, 12 Feb 2005 07:21:50 +0000 Re: Real Bataranghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1804002,from=rss#post1804002https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1804002,from=rss#post1804002That first one ISNT screen accurate. It was made by SDStudios. Hand sculpted by Steve D. now of Master Replicas. Almost every one you get is a recast of one of the ones he made. The only person I know of with one of Steve's originals is Matt Munson. As far as I know, an original has never surfaced (but there was one one ebay with those ninja stars a few years back... I swear it was accurate... I hopefully will have the pic to show in a few weeks). Same goes for the Returns rang. Everyone is a recast of an SDS one. -Kevinnondisclosed_email@example.com (NightwingBegins)Fri, 11 Feb 2005 23:19:37 +0000 Re: Real Bataranghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1804001,from=rss#post1804001https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1804001,from=rss#post1804001I don't know why that would be. I thought if you right-clicked and saved,it would be the exact size it's posted as. Then of course double it and so on...I tested it and it worked perfectly. The overall width is about 8.25"...center-from top of ears to bottom of point about 4"...top of ears to bottom of blades about 6.25" So draw a rectangle 8.25" wide by 6.25" high, mark your neccessary centers and draw a rang inside of it. :wink John :flapbat nondisclosed_email@example.com (Blackwood Bat)Tue, 01 Feb 2005 00:35:50 +0000 Re: Real Bataranghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1804000,from=rss#post1804000https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1804000,from=rss#post1804000Didnt work :ohwell My computer wants to size it so I cant get whatever the measurement is. Either way,its probably very close to the real dimensions, even if it isn't exact. The scan is resized exactally half scale. Save the pic, resize it by doubling it,print it and that should be accurate enough. :wink John :flapbat nondisclosed_email@example.com (Blackwood Bat)Tue, 01 Feb 2005 00:02:03 +0000 Re: Real Bataranghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1803998,from=rss#post1803998https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1803998,from=rss#post1803998Does anyone have measurements of the screen used?   nondisclosed_email@example.com (55LincolnFutura)Mon, 31 Jan 2005 23:25:43 +0000 Re: Real Bataranghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1803997,from=rss#post1803997https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1803997,from=rss#post1803997John... You'll clearly see the separation of each part and also how they're cut and shaped. The outer piece sort of fits into the inner piece and allows it to fold smoothly. In the screen caps you can see how its folded. Again, according to our friend Dave, the "hinges" are actually rubber. He didn't go into enough detail to fully explain how it was put together or how it works, but he definitely said "rubber".:lol Maybe you can figure it out. :wink John :flapbat nondisclosed_email@example.com (Blackwood Bat)Mon, 31 Jan 2005 23:02:11 +0000 Re: Real Bataranghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1803995,from=rss#post1803995https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1803995,from=rss#post1803995Thats cool but I would like to have a real Bat Blade like what was used in Dead End. :dancespot nondisclosed_email@example.com (TheDarkknight2005)Mon, 31 Jan 2005 22:57:11 +0000 Re: Real Bataranghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1803994,from=rss#post1803994https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1803994,from=rss#post1803994I cant quite tell what your trying to say... are you saying that the ridge running down each wing is a hinge in addition to the ridge down the center? It seems that way in the movie stills, but I cant completely tell. Maybe some kind of hidden "leaf spring" like springs can be used in addition to hinges to make it open up by itself.nondisclosed_email@example.com (PatrickJ)Mon, 31 Jan 2005 22:45:40 +0000 Re: Real Bataranghttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1803993,from=rss#post1803993https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p1803993,from=rss#post1803993 It folds in four parts. I've got'ta buddy who can cut stuff outta steel... Although the real 'rang might be made out of something else, I think steel would work for it. I'll probably try and make two, one that splits, and one solid one. The entire concept of what Bats used the 'rang for in the first scene of '89 is entirely possible... I may have to try it... Dave from Mattel said he held the screen used one and studied it a little. The idea of small hinges came up and I thought it might work with rubber pieces either inside the body of the rang,or attached to the outside.  Dave pretty much confirmed it was in fact rubber pieces glued to the front and back of the rang at the seams,as opposed to metal hinges. Now,what kind of rubber, how thick,or EXACTALLY how and where it attaches,I do not know. Here's a scan of one of my 89's. To the best of my knowledge,it's accurate to the screen used rang, but this is the back, which is why it's flat looking. I scanned it and cut the size exactally in half,so if you save it,double it's size and you'll have an accurate template.
