'89 Rang Prototype Finished - Pics

To provide a diversion to keep myself sane with a certain current happening in my life, I have been working in my spare time to FINALLY get my '89 rang finished. So here it is.

And now for a couple money shots. :)

Naturally I went and broke the right end off not even five minutes after I took these pictures. :cussing Oh well. It was a clean break so I can repair it relatively easily.

I was planning on molding it and casting resin copies so other bros here can have one if they want it. Also because as I demonstrated, this "prototype" is extremely fragile.

This is covered with a few coatings of that sandable auto-paint primer. It gives a nice silky sheen to it. :)

I'm thinking of painting the castings with a gunmetal color for a little twist.

That looks good there Patrick. :wink
Are you gonna putty it to soften the curves,or leave it as is?

Which curves, specifically?

The four curves where the joints are,or would be in theory. The rang isn't really flat...only in some areas. It curves upward and downward more gradually as it meets the jointed areas.

No big deal,just curious.

Oh, I had no idea it wasnt completely flat. You mean the surface itself along the length of the joints or at the edges near the joints? In the case of the surface itself not being flat, I think I'm gonna leave it the way it is, or I might screw it up even more. :p I'd like to eventually make a completely accurate one, but I'm pretty proud of this one. :)

Oh,and you most certainly should be proud. That's awesome.
But yes,as you described. :wink
Most of the end pieces are flat, but then a gradual curve up,then slighty more dramatic to the 'peak',then rollercoaster with a few small flat spots in the middle sections, then on to the other side.

The way I did mine was similar to yours, but I used clay. It started off flat, then I added more clay to build up those areas, then sanded like crazy til it was uniform, smooth, etc.

I think I might make the blades a teency bit longer though... maybe add some length on with clay directly before I mold it. Those blades are awesome, but they ended up being a bit shorter than I counted on. And they're not going to be metal when I cast it like the prototype is now(that would kick ass though), because I don't have the means or skills to machine it. Oh well.

That's an interesting take on it, looks like the blades on the end come popping out with the push of a button or something.
